recently added a 75" UHD tv for 4k playback
htpc is using Jriver24 for playback
Movies that have been ripped , play ok in 4k as long as you dont stop at any point
and try and restart at the same position ,
fast forward / rewind else the application freeze and must be stopped using task manager
Task manger when video playing , at no more than 50% cpu use . and 30% mememory use , Hard drive use is at 15%
Settings use red october , and GPU card hardware decode
The video card was purchased recently so the 4k could be done
feel like either codec problem or hardware resource problem but after a lot of playing have not been able to resolve issue
any one can advise on what the problem is
Regards
Sheldon
HTPC specs
AMD A6-3500 @2.10Ghz , 8gb ram DDR3, Win 10 64bit rev 1803 -
MB = A75-V , HD are all via MB at SATA3 IDE
GPU = Gigabyte (N1050OC-2GL) 2GB GTX 1050 OC Low Profile PCI-E VGA Card

I think you need red october HQ for 4k playback - might be wrong, often am.

first of all is the hardware i have able to support 4k movies that i am playing , if so then it will be a mater of settings ??
I have tried ROHQ , it also seems to work , but still i cant fastforward / rewind in any way without the JR24 just sitting there , taskmanager says cpu50% , mem 30% , hd is at best at 15% , this never times out it just sits there

Like I said I am often wrong :-* 2GB video card?
-
yes 2gb ddr5 mem

This might not be helpful but i remember 4GB being discussed as the minimum amount of GPU memory for solid UHD playback when I was upgrading. I went with the 1060 6GB (there was no 4GB option) and don't have those problems.
Getting your setup working right can have lots of different factors. Hardware is only one of the pieces. Drivers play a huge roll in how UHD will play. There was while when a lot of us had to roll back our video drivers. Now that things are working I try not to mess with anything on my HTPC and only update when forced to.
