Title: Handheld syncing
Post by: Dai Guinness on November 29, 2018, 09:55:58 am
Can't find anything that covers exactly this in the Wiki pages or on the boards here. Not sure I'm posting this in the right place either so please move it to somewhere more appropriate if needed.

I threw iTunes out many years ago but still have an old iPod that has music I don't want to lose, but don't want to install iTunes again anywhere.  Does the sync work both ways or to put it another way, can I drag the music off the iPod, add it to my library in MC and then convert and sync it to my current S8 Android handheld device?

Currently using MC23.0.104 64 bit but thinking about upgrading to MC24 if there's anything new that would help with the above.

MC won't help you get files off the iPod.  You could try a Google search.  I think it's possible.

In addition to what Jim said, handheld sync in MC23 64-bit doesn't work at all. You'd have to use the 32-bit version if you want to use handheld sync with MC23.

Otherwise, see if you can connect the iPod to a PC and see if it's mounted as a USB drive with a drive letter. If you can, I believe the music files on an iPod are contained in hidden folders (albeit, they're named random characters, if I'm not mistaken).

OK iPod problem sorted, thanks for the suggestions. Awesome Donkey, I understand your comments about handheld sync not working in the 64 bit, do either you or Jim know if this has been fixed in MC24 please?

Yeah, handheld sync works in MC24 64-bit because support was added, but I'm not sure about iPods though.

Thanks AD, I got the music off the old ipod using another program so that's all great now. The new handheld is a Galaxy S8 running Android so if I upgrade to MC24, I should be able to sync this to my JRiver library yes?

You can use MC to sync files to the S8.
