Title: JRemote can’t select IdPi in Play To menu
Post by: AndrewFG on December 31, 2018, 12:15:54 pm
In JRemote if I try to select my (new) IdPi as a Play To zone, I can see the Pi listed as a Renderer, but when I select it, JRemote tries to select it but fails, and defaults back to the previously selected zone.

Did you try restarting both?  Will Panel connect?

Restarting doesn’t solve it.

Panel does indeed connect.

Odd.  Timing?  Is it a really big library on the Id?  The Pi isn't a very powerful machine and maybe JRemote is giving up too soon.  But Bob uses the IdPi with JRemote a lot, so I'd think we would have seen this before if it is time related.

About how many files do you have?  Are they on a connected drive?

Try generating a new Access Key by turning Media Network off and back on.

I use JRemote and connect directly to my idPi. My music is stored on a powered hdd attached by usb to the pi. A hat gives me spdif to my dac.
JRemote connects well, and I select "Player" in it as my current zone. As idpi has JRiver already installed, I have no need to go via pc.
I suppose if you have alternative zones then that comes into play.
Don't know if this helps.

An external USB drive can't be powered by the Pi unless the power supply is upgraded.  You could search on the RPi site for power information.

Maybe timing indeed. I have 15k tracks on an MC Windows HTPC. The IdPi is 1) connected to that library, and 2) acting as a renderer. With JRemote on my iPad I cannot connect to the IdPi renderer and push from the MC HTPC to the renderer. However with JRemote on my wife’s iPad she CAN connect to the IdPi and push to it. Most odd..

Could you set up a test with fewer tracks?

Or wait longer?

Or kill anything else running on your phone?

I don’t think the issue is related at all to the library. In JRemote I am connected to, and remain connected to, the library on my HTPC. I am just trying to select the Play To destination Zone in JRemote; the IdPi is listed as a possible Play To destination Zone, but when I select it, JRemote ignores the selection and reverts back the previously selected Zone. Also / therefore waiting longer is not going to make any difference..

Do you have more than one MC server? If so, assign them different ports. I had a similar problem when JRemote was telling me it was connected to Server A although it was really connected to Server B.

Is there a difference in the iOS version on the devices?

How about the zone setting switches on the 2 JRemote installations?
(app follows zone server changtes, server follows app zone changes).

Hi bob.

Yes toggling those switches (to "Server follows app") solved the problem.

But I'm not entirely sure what they mean :) if I have "Server follows app" set, and I change the JRemote Play to renderer to the IdPi, does this now mean that Play commands executed directly on the Server (my HTPC) will also be redirected to the IdPi ??

Yes that is what the "server follows app" does. It sets the current output zone on the server to be the same as on JRemote.

It's suspicious that you needed to do that. The only thing I know of that needs that setting are the Radio Paradise stream playback commands when playing RP to a remote zone.

What material were you trying to play?
