Title: Newly imported images all get assigned their date as "album"; can we stop this?

I don't see any advantage to forcing new images to be in an "album" by their date.  If I need to see images by date, i can just pick that date from the date field.  I now have to pick all the date "albums" and clear the album field to keep my photo album field useful.

Is this something I can prevent from happening, if so how?
