Title: Program Restore assist--need old config file
Post by: scottm_dj on January 20, 2019, 08:26:11 pm
My PC hard drive won't boot into windows--but i can access the files on it.  Quite simply, a JRiver rebuild is a nightmare with everything i have the program doing (DSD feed to Exasound DAC/playlists for 2ch and multichannel DSD/media server video config, etc).  Is there a config file (or files) that i can grab from the old setup and add to the reinstalled program directory so all that would be setup on the new install?

It should all be in your last backup file.

Backup file?  Would they all be found in this (attached) directory?

No.

If you haven't changed the setting or done manual backups, the automatic backups will be found where specified by the following setting:
Options > File Location > Program Files > Library Backups

As you can't run MC anymore, search the drive for file names like:
MC Library Backup (Main Local Library - 2019-01-21 10-50).zip
or just
MC Library Backup *.zip

I see it...I'm sure it's under the old "My Documents" /J River 24/Library Backup--and that directory also contains those files i highlighted.

Does that mean in addition to the structure of my music library, it will also carry over the program settings i made for my Exasound DAC, settings to play my video files through my DLNA renderer, the playlists i set up to auto-sort 2ch vs multichannel material, etc?  At least as much as possible...

I should look at my own edits to the Wiki. See https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Backup

The default Library Backup directory is indeed under "My Documents", in "C:\Users\[User ID]\Documents\JRiver\Media Center 24\Library Backups".

All you need is the most recent zip file. Perhaps copy a few off the drive in case there was any corruption as your drive failed. Restore that zip file, and select to restore both the library and settings, and you should get everything back.

Thank You.  Very helpful.   I just have one more question...

If i just want to copy all the complex program configuration (including smartlist for 2ch and Mch) but *NOT* any music library info (music database details), is there one of the files i would NOT copy over?  In other words, the new version i have on a completely different drive than the old one and dont want old content or location pointers carried over.

When doing a library restore, there's two options you can choose from...

Restore library and playlists
Restore settings

In your case, uncheck Restore library and playlists but keep Restore settings checked. It'll restore the settings but not the library and playlists.
