Title: Album Artist (auto) - does what?

I tried the help file (nothing there) and read a long topic about going back to MJ8 but its not clear.  What is Artist Album (auto) supposed to do?

I've edited MC's Artist/Album scheme to use Artist just like in MJ8 so that's not a problem, but I'd like more info (maybe there's a functionality there I'd like to use).

Album Artist is a special tag that lets you define a single artist for multiple files. This is handy for compilations, soundtracks, and other albums that have more than one artist.

Album Artist (auto) will sort by looking for Album Artist in tags - if no Album Artist has been defined it will continue sorting by the regular Artist tag.

Anyone, feel free to jump in and correct me if I've made a mistake here  :)
