Title: 1080 not upscaling to 2160
Post by: rec head on February 13, 2019, 01:12:30 pm
I don't know what is going on or when the problem occurred. For some reason my 1080 content is not getting up-scaled to 2160. I spent a lot of time getting 1080, 3D and 4K HDR content working some months back and haven't knowingly changed anything since. I have even avoided updating my Nvidia drivers.

I have checked my Display Settings seem correct at 2160 at the correct refresh rates.

Madvr profiles look good (unchanged) too.

I'm tempted to use the new Madvr profiles option that is available. If I try it is there a way to get back to my current settings?

Anything else I can try?

For most content it doesn't matter but I'm rewatching the last season of GoT and there is a lot of banding if my TV does the upscaling.

Thanks

Yes.

OK, should I Google it?

When I try those settings it says it will reset my Madvr settings. How do I get the old ones back?

Are you customizing JRiver's madVR?  If so, that may be your problem.

Just so that you will try the new MC Quality Setting profiles, a search of the forum for "settings.bin" will answer the question. i.e. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114628.msg799195.html#msg799195

But don't change madVR more than required to get 3D working, as documented in the 3D thread. I guess there are a couple of other things, such as setting the Device Type in madVR, which MC doesn't do. But keep that to the absolute basics. Use MC Display Settings to manage resolution etc. Don't use the madVR Profile Group functionality, which I think you were in the past. See how you go.

What do you mean when you say that 1080p content is not being scaled to 2160p?
That video is playing in a small window, or that madVR reports that it is scaling content to a 1080p output?
If it is the latter, it's a DPI scaling issue.

I'm not sure about Rec Head, but in my case, before I changed my MC Display Settings, the TV would report that it was receiving 1080p rather than 4K. Then, given that it is a 4K TV, it was doing the upscaling.

So that is a third option RD.

Thanks for the help.

MadVR is reporting that 1080 is being sent, (Draw 1920x1080) to my 4K TV. The TV is then upscaling to 4K but it isn't as good as madVR and visibly noticeable. I get a full screen not a little window.

As far as I can tell my Display Settings are correct  (all set to 2160) and unchanged from when everything was working.

I thought with the new madVR profiles that there might be an easy way to switch back to a previous configuration but If I need to back up the settings.bin then that isn't the case.
