Title: DLNA server playing DSD source
Post by: pluto on March 22, 2019, 03:10:30 pm
I have a DLNA server set up to deliver MP3 (high bandwidth) audio to its clients. Works well, when playing any of my PCM material (max 192kHz). However, I have some DSD source material. The audio delivered to the clients is roughly on a par with 7 bit (dithered) via the bit-depth simulator, in other words – rather noisy.

What to do please?

p.s. supplementary question... when you select MP3 output for a DLNA server (as above), where is the sampling rate sent to the client determined? Can it be changed, or is it internal and private to the software?

JRive seems not to work with DSD over DLNA.

If you are converting DSD files to mp3 via the MC dlna server they should be playing ok - I'm listening to a dsd playlist via the mp3 dlna server at the moment and I don't detect any poor sound quality. Make sure that you are using the SOX resampler and set dithering to TPDF these setting are found under Tools>options>Audio, dithering is in the advanced section of the menu.

Ok guys, I have it working. The instructions are very unhelpful. I had to look over other posts to get it working. JRive needs to make it easier. Such a PITA!

I am unable to use the DSP Studio to upsample music files to 2xDSD. Only with DSP Studio disabled and Mode set to original, I can play DSD.
