Title: Motherboard sound chips/codecs
Post by: DHF on April 01, 2019, 12:11:38 pm
A question for the hardware guys out there.  If I play JRiver and stream digitally to a DAC on my receiver through HDMI, does the sound hardware on the PC ever "get involved" in the process?

bitstream is untouched signal  i guess..but the hardware is involved,,as that is what you use to connect

No.

Well, not the sound chip anyway.

Bitstreaming or not, if you are sending the signal via HDMI, it is the GPU and its driver that handles the audio. Windows can still get involved if you aren't using Exclusive Mode.
