Title: Indexing Cache files
Post by: jkolker on May 08, 2019, 07:31:39 am
Hello!

I recently noticed that I'm getting cache files indexed as part of the database.

Per the first attachment, a list of my indexed folders.  The "Music" folder on the local drive is NOT one of the folders selected for indexing.

The second attachment shows the resulting indexed cache file for a particular album.  I seem to have many of these now.

How can I stop the indexing of cache files?

Thanks
Jeff

You can just select the files and delete them from MC.  Read carefully.  Try a few before you do very many.

Do I need the cache files?

Will more show up and get indexed?

MC will import whatever you've set in that dialog.

I don't know what "the cache files" are.

In my local music folder on the server PC, as per the picture I posted, there is a folder:

"C:\Users\HomeMediaCenter\Music\JRiver Conversion Cache\" with multiple artist/album folders within.

I didn't create this folder, so I am assuming there is a setting somewhere that does?  The folder name says "cache" so that's why I called them "the cache files".  They were .wav or .jpg files

My second picture shows where the system is to look for files.  The above-named directory isn't included.

So how did files get indexed from a folder I didn't specifically create and I didn't tell it to index?

I went ahead and used JRiver (Audio - Files) to locate all the music files indexed (30+ files) in that folder and deleted them all (from the index and hard drive).  We'll see if they come back.

MC's Options > File Location > Conversion Cache option. If you don't want a cache, set it to None (do not create cache).

Thanks!

Good to know.  So many settings.  I don't mind the cache, just don't want it indexed.  We'll see if it happens again...

It could have been 'Imported' in the past as, as you say, it's not currently listed in the folders to import.
