As per JimH I'm starting a new thread on this subject.
I reported on this bug many versions ago ( 9.0.108 ) but it is still there...
* On 5.1 surround sound the rear two channels are missing. As soon as I click on TV Configure/Advanced Options then click on the TV Tuner the rear channels return. I don't even have to select OK or anything... the rear channels stay good until the next time when I re-load MC then they are gone again.
* Sometimes (seems to be erratic) under the TV Configure/Audio tab the Choose Mixer Device & Choose Audio Line will sometimes be blank & I have to re-enter the information. This happens at odd times.
* The missing rear channels are lost every time MC is loaded so there does not seem to any connection between the two problems.
The last version that the rear channels worked was 9.0.107.

From JimH ( copied from another thread )...
Doc, there's a very good chance that this bug is in a driver or in the OS. Try updating your drivers first.
-
Hi Jim;
I'm running a completely new & clean install of Win XP Pro with SP 1 & all other latest drivers from Microsoft, Creative SoundBlaster Audigy & ATI video drivers.
I don't think it has anything to do with the drivers as I can re-install MC 9.0.107 & the rear channels work just fine.
As I recall there was a major change in the programming of some kind starting with MC 9.0.108. That's the same time I started having problems with the missing rear channels. All versions since 9.0.108 have had the same problem.

From Yaobing ( Copied from another thread )...
Hi DocLotus,
Thanks for report the problems again.
I am still searching in dark for the cause and a solution. Please do keep reporting it until it is fixed. Thanks.

Hi Doc

See if this helps:
Tv options/configure Tv
Lower/left -- see if Stereo is checked.

Griff;
Boy, did I miss that one... BIG TIME!!!
It was for some reason set to Language A ( whatever that is ).
Rear channels seems to be working now.
I'll keep my eye on the Mixer Driver & Audio Line problem & see if it comes up again.
Thanks so much!

I thought you already tried it :-[ - I did mention it in one of the threads here.
The audio mode is set to Language_A most probably because of a bug on my part - different TV card drivers behave differently in this regard, and it is hard for me to cater to all of them. So I have now made this option optional. This change will appear in the next build (hopefully in MC 9.0.116).

Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry, somehow my changes did not get built into MC 116. Maybe next build.

DocLotus,
Do you still have trouble with rear channel sound disappearing? In today's build (9.0.174.0) there is some change in TV on how Audio Mode Selection is handled. Please try it and let me know if it works.
-
After I turned off "Enable auto mode selection" the rear channels have been good for many, many builds. No problems for a long time.
I will try turning it back on & see how it works for a few days.

You started to have the rear channel problem when I added Audio Mode selection. I later made it optional. It is not essential. So if you do not need to hear SAP, you can just keep the option off. But I would like to see if it works now as intended so that someone who wants to hear SAP can turn it on without unintended effects. However you would only get mono for SAP anyway.

Still no rear channels with "Enable auto mode selection" turned on. OK without.
Also, sometimes I can select Stereo & other times it is blanked out when "Enable auto mode selection" turned on.

Thanks for testing it. It looks like there is a problem with your device driver in this area, and you will have to just leave the option off.
