I was wondering if anyone would like to start a 'Tagging Methodology' thread where people could post Q&A about tagging methods, ideas, suggestions, etc...
I gues if anyone's interested, reply...
Thx

Yes, good idea.
I'm wondering how to remove only the Album Cover Art from WMA files without removing the other tags. MC9 seems to not be able to do that.

I think you just did ;D
Actually, I prefer to cut off the TAGS, because either they ITCH, or they stick out and look awful.
On the other hand, it can be difficult to remember all those care instructions on laundry day without the tags . . . you decide

OK - Here's a question - If I have, say, a soundtrack...I tag the Album Artist as "Original Soundtrack" and then I tag each individual song's "Artist" field w/ the individual artist's name. Should I tag each song's genre field based on the particular song's genre, or do I tag the entire album's (all the songs) genre as "Soundtrack"?
-
Make it all Soundtrack as later on you may be looking for all Soundtrack songs and any that are tagged otherwise won't show up.
-
Well,
what I do is to have a custom tag called "Album Genre" which is not strictly musicaly related like the standard "genre" field. In this field I tag the albums as :
Movie Soundtrack, Concert, Show, Tribute, Compilation, Studio, Best Of, etc....
And the individual tracks are "genred" according to their musical content. e.g. "Jimmy Cliff - The harder they come" is tagged as reggae in the soundtrack album "The Harder they come" while "Jimmy Cliff - Many river to cross" from the same album is tagged as "Pop" (does not sound like reggae to me !). The "Album genre" tag for this album is "Movie Soundtrack".
This way when I setup a smartlist for random reggae tracks using the genre field, I really get reggae. (At least what sounds like real reggae to me !)
But that is just my personal feeling about albums/tracks genres, someone else might find my scheme akward.
Just my humble contribution to your question Wobbley,
Christian

DocLotus,
Thanks, but because I tagged the Album Artist as "Original Soundtrack" I can already find all songs that are soundtracks. I don't the genre to be "Soundtrack" in order for me to find soundtrack songs in my library. But thanks for the reply anyway...
I'll just tag the songs according to their individual genres...
