Works perfectly for me.
DIstro, Desktop?

What happens when you close the remote display screen with it's close button as opposed to double-clicking on the display area?

It's Intel 915.
There shouldn't be any issues.

What happens if you simply close the detached display window by clicking on it's x in the upper right of the window?

-i use double display
-after detach display ->large window ->screenshot
-close this window with x ->same like double-click in the "retach-area" ->screenshot 1+2
-only solution to retach->open/close MC

Did some testing on this and the problem seems to be compiz.
If you turn that off the behavior goes away.

What MC does in detach is to reparent the window to root then try to grab it back when re-attaching.
Compiz is probably doing similar things to do it's animation stuff and they are colliding.
