Title: Use Sony NW-a45 Walkman as a DAC through MediaCentre
Post by: apnakon on June 04, 2019, 11:51:05 pm
Hi Everyone,

I have a Sony NW-A45 Walkman that also has DAC functionality.
All you need to do is plug it in the USB port of the PC and the Sony driver (I installed on Windows) will
do it's job.

Now I'm wondering how I can use this DAC, via MediaCentre, to play onto my PC speakers.

i have tried a few things out but with no success (ie. using Sony ASIO Driver as input) but I can't work out a way to
re-route the output  - via the USB connection - to the PC.

Sound will play via the Walkman headphones jack - but it would be great if I could sort out the PC speakers.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.   :)

Thanks,

Adrian.

Are you suggesting that you want the walkman to decode your audio, send it back to the PC, and then output to your speakers? If so, this totally defeats the purpose of using an external DAC.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the reply.

To answer your question - this is what Sony says it can do - so I wanted to try it out.
I can certainly use it to play through the headphones jack - so was wondering if there was a trick
to get it re-routed back via the USB.

Sounds like this isn't possible.

Cheers,

Adrian.

If your sony has a line out setting you might connect this to the line in of the computer to get playback from the computer speakers.
