See attachments. Why is JRemote transcoding m4a files to mp3 for playback on my Google Pixel 3a?
-
Anybody?
-
You can edit the list of supported file types in the options for the handheld.
-
Oh? Where?
-
When you click on Handhelds in the Action Window, there is a menu available in the upper left corner.
You can also get to Handheld options from Settings.
-
Oh, that?
Isn't that for syncing media to the device?
I'm pulling media from the server via access key, if it's important.
-
The format should only depend on whether or not that switch (Use Native Format) is chosen and if the files sample rates/bitdepth are compatible.
We just tried that test here and duplicated your result. Looks like a bug to me. What version of MC are you running?
-
25.0.54

25.0.54
Thanks, we'll do some checking here.
-
Anything come out of this?
-
Android native media support is a very mixed bag of things. We're working on an update for JRemote for Android which should improve the playback capabilities, but its a bit further out still.
-
Oh, nice! First time in three years! :D
Looking forward to it!
-
So how long is "further out"?
-
A few weeks.
-
From now?
-
From now?
More or less.

I feel it worth mentioning that I noticed something:
When using *Rename, Move, & Copy Files...* on M4A's, MC appears to change the extension on disk to MP4. Library itself still references them as M4A, mind.
Would this have any effect on the issue at hand?

Please make sure you have the latest version. It should no longer change the m4a type.

Just for clarification, when you said an update was coming down the pipeline for JRemote, did you mean just the iOS version, or the Android version as well?
I have the latter.

Hendrik was talking about the Android version.
-
... Oh. Derp.
I didn't read back far enough; I'm sorry. But thank you. :)

Any kind of status update?

Any kind of status update?
It's coming along but not ready for beta yet.
-
Hey guys, how's it coming?

There it is!
Thank you so much; we can consider this issue solved! ^o^
