I have searched the forum and only found the same reports, but can't find the answer...(sorry if I missed it).
Only some of my .avi files will play with video, the others are only sound. I get "media type not supported..." yet .avi is supposed to be. What's the deal? :-/

Sometimes files with an .avi extension are actually DivX Video, which is kind of a different format than Windows Video, which also uses the .avi extension. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). In Windows Explorer, you might try right-clicking on the files and choosing Properties to see if you get any info as to what codec was used to encode them. It's possible you might need to install the DivX codecs available from http://www.divx.com/

Try downloading AVIcodec (http://avicodec.duby.info/). It should tell you what codec your files uses and whether you have it.

Thanks guys! Yes, DivX Video is the reason.
