I would love to be able to index my PDF/DOC/PS files with MC. Maybe there is a registery hack so that I can change extensions the import engine considers?
I understand that I cannot store the tags on the files, and I can only open them using sent to external command.

Tolga,
That's quite easy.
1/ Go to "My Computer" in the tree view
2/ Locate the docs and any file you want to manage with MC
3/ Right Click - Import Into Library
4/ Organize with fields, file types and view schemes
5/ add some useful external tools in the Send To (external) like Word, Acroread
Actually I've done that to manage some files both office and binaries for some projects and it works nicely.
Have fun !

Hi again,
Just to show you a useful use of MC as a Data Library. I use it to index all my CD with various Data. This way once they are imported in MC's library it's very easy to find a given file using the powerful organization and search feature of our favourite app !

Here you can see a screenshot of some data archive of mine :)

Thanks Cmagic,
I tried that but I get the dialog that says:
Files Scanned: 1
New Files found: 0
Failed to Import: 0
Total Files in Library:0
I use MC 171. Have you done any customization that you think might be relevant?

It worked now.
It works within MC, but not with shell extension.
To make it work with shell extension would be nice because then I would be able to search for *.PDF select all and import. I can't do that within MC.
Any comments from MC Team?

Don't use the import dialog because those data type are not registered there.
GO to My computer, select your location, hilight the files you want and then Right Click | Import Into Library, that's the last item in the RMC menu.
You can then check that your data file icon has changed from orange (not imported) to blue (imported).

Ok, tolga,
looks like we cross-posted.

I suggested this twice, as it is probably just a minor change to D/clicking in MC9/My Computer to start WinWord on a .doc file. I am sure they will do it at some time, then we might even be able to send Windows Explorer to Recycle bin!
Imagine! MC9 as a Windows Explorer replacement! The functionality is there, it only needs to be properly awakened!
