Title: Delete tags
Post by: dima11 on August 04, 2019, 04:00:56 am
Hi!
How do I delete tags I don't want to use?

You can't.  You can drag and drop them to a single section if you want to.

Please describe what you mean.  Tags inside files?  Tags shown in the Tag Action Window on the left?  Columns in certain views?  What do you see visually or as a behavior that you want to change?

Thanks,

Brian.

OK, it's when i use JREMOTE on my iPad.
I would like to get rid of the "RATING" column.
If I chose an album then, on some albums, there are 1 to 5 orange stars. If I tap the "i" I get a list on the right:
Track - Name - Duration - Rating - etc.
I can set all ratings to zero, but can I delete the whole thing?

You're talking about the metadata display in JRemote that is accessed from the Playing screen.   I don't think that screen is customizable at all.

The Rating field itself is a default field for MC, so it can't be deleted from the database as far as I know.

These ratings were either set by you at some point, or imported from your files at import time.  They would be in the files because someone set them at some point.  Either you in another program or someone else.

You said you know how to set ratings to zero.  Do you know how to do it for every song in your library in one shot?  Would that help you to have them all set to zero quickly?  I'm trying to figure out why showing the Rating is a problem.  I'm guessing that the ratings are really old or not yours so they don't make any sense to you and are thus unwelcome.

Brian.

Nope, you can't hide the ratings from the JRemote now playing screen (I wish it could though).

With JRemote for Android getting a new version soon, maybe if we ask nice enough Hendrik might add an option to hide ratings like other remotes and Panel do.

Making that customizable would be a nice addition to JRemote, and Gizmo for that matter.

Hi Brian

Thanks for your reply...
Settings all RATINGS to zero in one shot would surely help - so how do I do it?

Settings all RATINGS to zero in one shot would surely help - so how do I do it?

Go to MC's Standard View interface (the computer interface).  Open a view that shows all of your files.  The Albums view or Files view would be good choices.  Select some files to test with.  Maybe 2 or 3 just to play with.  Now open the Tag Action Window with Alt-Enter or Edit > Tag .  Now the Tag Window will be open on the left.   Near the top of this Tag Window you should see Rating.  Set that rating to 0 by clicking on the X near the end of the stars.  Now all files you selected are set to no rating.

You can do this for whole albums as a test.  Once you are sure that it is working the way you think it is, you can select all files at once and set a 0 rating.  To select all files, just click on any file in a view that shows them all.  In an albums view, just click on the album thumbnail.   Now do Edit > Select All.  All album thumbnails should now be highlighted.  Now any change you make in the Tag Action Window on the left applies to all files!

Be careful.  Double check yourself.  Do a few first.  Then you can hit them all in one shot.

Good luck!

Brian.

If you have a large library, it might time a while to write all the new tags to the files. Just be aware of that.

I'd like to hide/eliminate ratings from everything.  I have yet to appreciate its value.

Same here. I don't see any point in having ratings in my own library. I put the tracks there so it stands to reason I think they rank well enough to listen to, and there's no need for me to assign ratings. If they're rated by someone else, well, I don't want someone else's opinions in my library.

I spend so much time removing the ratings column from various views - please give us a way of removing ratings from our JRiver experience.

Ratings are also prominently displayed in Panel. It should be optional. It is just not universally used.
