hi got an odd problen that i cant seem to solve, the jriver interface and movies play back blocky, it looks like the interface is in super low resolution, the connected display is 4k, other programs look fine on the display ??
Thanks

Under the View Menu, try "Size".
Back up your library (under the File Menu) in case you need to uninstall.
-
size just enlarges or reduces size, but still has the ulra low resolution look
-
Retina? Same menu.
-
no retina option, im using windows 10
-
some pics

its almost like zooming into a jpeg, its like jriver interface is a picture rather than vectors that scale

Can you think of anything you've changed? It's very strange.
Did you try other skins?
-
Try Tools > Options > Tree & View > Resolution:Desktop Settings
-
yes it was set to desktop resolution, just tried mphc and that works fine, super crisp sharp edges while the movie is playing, yet jriver has very blocky edges almost like if anti aliasing is turned off in a game, also jriver is slamming my gpu to the point where the mouse stutters
surely a skin will not efect the media player
system
I7 8700K
16GB ram
gtx 1060
display
55" LG oled TV
3840x2160
mphc runs fine with madvr on high with all sacrifice quality for performanc unticked (i want the best i can get), jriver madvr seems to be on medium
its a great shame as im using the trial, as jriver seems to be the only all in one solution at the moment, and id prob pay for the full version, BUT with image quality issues straight out of the box and nothing seems to be fixing it, is not good, not experianced anythink like this with other media players ?
and just out of interest what media engine is jriver using ??

I am running on 1070 seems fine
What’s your desktop dpi setting?
Can you print screen MadVR OSD screen when it runs choppy
-
when in full screen its plays smooth with around 75-80% gpu, but when you double click on the film and it docks into the preview window in jriver it then puts gpu at 100 and moving the mouse and doing things is choppy and slow, untill i press stop on the movie

More details will be useful ... what resolution is your desktop ... what’s dpi (change the size of text, apps, and other items) your desktop on
Do you scale your video with madVR ... ie do you output your HD movies in 1080p to TV and let TV scale ... or you let madVR do scaling to 4K
I just tried on my MC ... only 4k movies get a bit choppy playback (other contents play smoothly) when minimized to dock ... but that’s expected as my madVR is set to max my GPU can handle ... when docking, addition processing (scaling it down) and draw operations by MC will push GPU over the limit where it starts dropping frames ... but on my setup is not THAT TERRIBLE chopping and still “watchable”
I suspect your low resolution MC interface only happens when you minimize full screen movie to dock ... this might have to do with your dpi settings of desktop ... that’s why I ask your setting

Try a few.
If you're using Red October HQ, try RO Standard.
JRiver uses its own media engine.
-
There could be some reason why video is rendering a certain way, but also the Media Center interface? That I have never heard before.
Can you give some details about your hardware?
Are you running more then one screen, or only the 4K one? If yes, with different resolution?
-
hi
ok think ive sorted it, it was the (change the size of text, apps, and other items) it was set to 400%
putting back to 100% has solved the problem, although this brings the problem of everything is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo tiny
but why all other media players work fine at 400% and jriver not ??
-
MC should be fine with high DPI, assuming you only have one screen. If you have multiple screens with different DPI values, things get tricky.
-
I have one 4k screen (lg e6) ... but MC still applies dpi setting if I output 1080p content to it (this is in full screen d3d11 mode ... though haven’t try it in long while) ... so if dpi is set 150% ... I can see on MadVR OSD that 1080p is getting scaled up by 150% ... checking TV info, it says it receives 1080p (something else on PC scales it back to output I set)
-
I suspect this cause choppiness for Mike-I’m when he dock playing video to MC interface ... dpi is applied to video and madVR scales accordingly ... then something else scales it back to fit designated dock area

This is because you change resolution from 4K to something else. Don't do that, and you don't have troubles. Stick to the same resolution for everything and let madVR perform the scaling, thats what its good at! I've explained that before. :)
If you change the resolution while MC is running (or more accurately, change to a new resolution with a different DPI), thats not something we can fix easily.

Yeah ... I used to do that to output 3D in frame pack ... now I do 3D in Under Over format (madVR convert MVC to UO on fly) in 4K ... this loses no resolution (since 3D was in 1080p anyway) and is now independent of the fact that NVidia ditched 3D MVC output from their latest drivers
Only drawback is I cannot watch 3D movies in 2D as it outputs in Over/Under ... to overcome this, I created a symbolic link to 3D mkv so it looks like a separate file ... then named that file so MadVR don't process it as 3D and just scaled it to 4k 2D
For FreeBSD (aka freeNAS) following create symbolic link
link "source_file" "target_file"
For Windows
mklink "source_file" "target_file"
In a way its like more advance "shortcut" … to OS it will look like 2 separate files … on disk is one file
