Title: OSD and subtitles overlapping
Post by: audunth on August 27, 2019, 04:32:44 am
Hi,

When I skip back 20-30 seconds because I missed what someone said in a movie, tv show etc., the OSD covers the subtitles, which is very annoying, because I have to skip back 10-20 extra seconds. Is it possible to make the OSD and subtitles not overlap, for example the subtitles are automatically moved a bit upward when the OSD is present? (Or the OSD moves up when subtitles are present, whatever is easiest to implement)

I know I can turn off the OSD, but I use it a lot, so that's not an option for me. Also the timeout for how fast the OSD disappears is good as it is, I wouldn't want it to go away faster.

I think this is a good idea.  I will give it some thought.  No promise for now.

My solution is reduce opacity of Progress_Back.png and Progress_Front.png in skin folder.

You can load my mix skin to test my solution. https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,121981.0.html

I would like to see the progress bar lowered to the lowest extremity of the monitor and the size of the opaque/semi-transparent area reduced.
It will help with subtitles and sports where sometimes the action is lower down on the screen.

But there is not much room to play with.

If the progress bar were at the lowest point on the screen that would be a pretty good help.

OK.  I added this:

NEW: Added an option "Lower and slimmer OSD" on Video playback options.

Hi and thanks for introducing the smaller OSD option! Works well with black bars (as long as the black bars are not a part of the video file), but when the format is 16:9 it still overlaps (although not as much as before :)). If there could be an option to (manually or automatically when the OSD is showing) move the subtitles a little bit up on 16:9 video files, it would be great.

So...is it possible to add a Subtitle position option? In a program as advanced as MC it sould really be automatic that the subtitles jump up out of the way when the OSD is on screen, but a simple option to specify the vertical position of the subtitles would help a lot  :)

It is my intention to get this to work, but I have not gotten a chance to look into it in details yet.

I forgot to thank you for this. Thank you! It is a big improvement in day to day use.
