I have shuffle disabled, and I am running Media Center Registered 9.0.169. I generally play albums by double clicking on the album name under Audio > Artist/Album. This clears Playing Now, and adds just that album to be played, which begins playing on track 1. Or at least that's what I think should happen.
There is one 13-track album I have which starts on track 8 whenever I double click it and add it to Playing Now. Every other album I've "tested" begins (correctly) on track 1.
The entire album in question is named and tagged correctly. I am at a loss. I feel stupid asking, but why would this ONE album always begin on track 8?

No idea at all.
I suppose that you have already checked that you can manually play the other files from 1 to 7 and therefore the links are not broken. Other than that I also suppose that you have not set any filter that may exclude those tracks 1 to 7 from playing.
What is the seq order that appears on your "playing now" window when you load the album from the view scheme? It's track 8 = Seq. 1 or not?

Files 1 - 7 are perfectly playable. No filters at all are in effect. File 1 is Seq 1, File 8 is Seq 8. The way it is shown here is the way it initially loads:

Just upgraded to build 170, and the problem still exists.

Funny behaviour :)
Have you tried to actually activate "suffle", load the album to playing now and see what happens? Does it play track #8? Does it play seq #8? or does it start playing seq #1 which is a random track?
Have you tried to delete the album from the library and re-import it?

Hi who,
Could it be that the 'Saved view' sorting of this album is not by track order ? To make sure that no other ordering is set for this album have you checked that the "Sort track # for albums" checkbox is checked in Tools | Options | Tree & View ?

I just did this, and it worked. Now, sending the same album to Playing Now results in track 1 starting--rather than track 8. I am mad at myself for not thinking to try this--thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
We'll probably never know why this was acting so strangely.
Thank you for the replies, Deivit and Cmagic.

Glad it worked.
... the mistery still remains :)

My guess is that it was some library corruption--perhaps due to all the MC9 crashes I was having (being serious, and not critical).
