Title: MC 25 Browser Choices
Post by: pwpacp on September 22, 2019, 01:44:09 pm
Another newbie here with a video streaming question.

I'm trying to stream Kinetic TV through MC but find it won't play video using Chrome or Explorer.  (Audio plays fine but video is a black screen)

I am able to play Kinetic TV fine with MS Edge, outside JRiver, but then there is no audio enhancements .

So, is there a way to add MS Edge to JRiver's browser choices?

Nope, it's limited to IE and Chromium as the choices, unfortunately.

As a newbie, are you aware of the WDM Driver (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/WDM_Driver)?

Using that you could play Kinetic TV in Edge, and output the audio to MC for playback. Sure, you will need to set up some stuff like Zones to ensure you can adjust the audio synchronisation with the video, but that can be done. Read the Wiki article I linked to above.

Of course, you could also ask Kinetic TV why their product doesn't play in Chromium (not Chrome) or IE (although IE is on its way out, to be sure).

Thanks for the replies.  I see I have a lot more homework to undertake, especially understanding how new all of this is to me.  I'm totally blown away by how MC works with my audio files & room correction and am sure video streaming will iron out too.

I tried Kinetic for help but they seem to be fairly new to their own streaming service.  i.e. When I asked for the login page URL their tech told me no one had ever asked for it and had to return the phone call when they found it!

I would love to offer Edge as a choice, but its not up to me. Microsoft would have to allow the ability to embed Edge into classic windows applications, which is not a thing currently possible.

Not to mention the current version of Edge (the EdgeHTML version) is more-or-less dead now, with the Chromium-based Edge replacing it when it's ready (it's already pretty stable and works pretty well).
