When MC assigns Album Artist (auto) to (Multiple Artists) based on the criteria from the wiki:

Is the inserted value "(Multiple Artists)" hard coded or can it be changed to something else?

it's "hard coded" but you can easily change all instances of (Multiple Artists) to something else at one go
