Title: Why does Media Center want to record my computer's screen?
Post by: Juke on October 07, 2019, 07:40:24 pm
Just updated my Mac to Catalina, Version 10.15.  After starting Media Center, I received the message:  "Media Center 25" would like to record this computer's screen.  My options are to grant access or deny.  Why does MC need to record my screen?

I had the same issue with HDTracks Downloader, denied the request.  I cant imagine why this would be necessary.

If I had to guess, it's something to do with video playback or theater view.

Possibly for Media Center, but for HDTracks Downloader?

It's probably this problem:

I'd really like to see a response from a someone familiar with the code.

Most likely a combination of the Catalina aspect + the fact that MC doesn't conform to MacOS standards when it comes to window handling.

That's a misleading statement.  The fact is that MC uses its own drawing, not OSX's.  OSX is itself a changing standard.  Apple regularly breaks things.

MC doesn't read your screen.  This is a security problem with Catalina.  There are workarounds, but it is an Apple problem.
