Everything works fine with my Oppo UDP205 except when I try to use it in 8X DSD in ASIO. It starts to stutter. I tried changing setting but nothing helps.
-
I take it you're upsampling everything (via DSP Studio > Output Format > Output Encoding) to 8xDSD? If so, DSD conversions are one of the most resource intensive operations MC can do especially if it's multichannel, and doing 8xDSD with it stuttering likely means your machine isn't powerful enough to handle 8xDSD conversions on-the-fly.
-
Does MC use hyperthreading when upsampling (or any other DSP for that matter)?
-
Precision T7610, Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v2 @ 2.10GHz, L2 Cache Size: 1536, 18g RAM. Not sure how much more power is needed. It happens when I upsample from anything, including other DSD formats.
-
Thats actually not that strong of a CPU (anymore), its 6 years old and has a low per-core clock. Its very likely that its overwhelmed trying to upsample to 8x DSD.
-
even at 6 cores? what would I have to upgrade to stop the stuttering?
-
We can't really give hardware recommendations, as it can depend on many factors, and we can't guarantee that it would work, and as others have said above, DSD 8x is about the most CPU intensive you can do for audio.
-
Run a JMark test (Help - Benchmark) and report that. If it works converting to 2x DSD and 4x DSD and not 8X DSD it is almost certainly the CPU.
Look at Task Manager and Resource Monitor when it is stuttering. I think you will find it is single threaded.
Make sure nothing else is running.
But, yes, you have an old CPU.
Upsampling from one DSD format to another is a killer. It converts the original DSD to PCM and then back to DSD. That is very intensive and probably not the best for an audio perspective.

That is very intensive and probably not the best for an audio perspective.
And it's a lossy conversion.
-
It uses 28% of CPU & 4.7gig out of 16gigs of ram, while its at 8x dsd and stuttering.

It's okay for normal uses, but it's likely choking on 8xDSD, as mentioned above.
