Title: Copy Sub channel to unused Surround channels?
Post by: jjkale on October 31, 2019, 09:43:02 am
I employ 3 subs.
Would it be an acceptable technique to copy the Sub channel to my unused Surround channels in order to individually EQ and DSP each sub?  I have an extra DAC for this purpose as well.
In essence I am creating an alternative minidsp.
I have seen measurements of the minidsp which lead me to believe that this method might yield higher fidelity.
Thanks for any suggestions or tips.

You can do this

What do you mean by an extra DAC?

is it slaved to your main DAC so MC sees it as one device?

Yup.  Nice to have those extra DAC channels.

?? Why not do the EQ/DSP in MC?  Why add hardware?

Thanks, should have been clearer.
I run JRiver on a Pink Faun streamer.  The streamer has an I2S bridge so I get 8 channels over I2S.  So, 4 dacs (I have an extra).
The basic system is 5.1, so change to 7.1 and copy the channels as above.
The unused channels will route to the unused dac and then to sub 2 and 3.  Sub 1 will be driven by DAC 2 (center and sub normally).
The DAC lineup is 2 Matrix X Sabre Pros and 2 Topping DX7 Pros.
