Title: Tag field flickering [Solved]

In the newest MC build after some time working with tags the text in a tag field begins to flicker and there is no chance to work anymore with MC. After quitting the program and the Mediaserver (normal - not a forced quit) the program works as always until the fault happens again.

Which version of MC?  25.0.114 seems to be a work in progress as they are trying to fix some Catalina compatibility problems.

Newest build of MC - a short video sequence is appended. The bug happens quite often now.

That looks like the hover over "tool tip" display is coming up, then going away, very quickly over and over.  I'm not sure what would cause that.  I can't reproduce it, but I'm using a slightly older version of MC25 (25.0.85).

In the meantime I downgraded to 25.0.108. That works without that problem up to now.

I tried the newest ...117 version but the problem still remains. May it be that the support for Catalina added something that creates the problem? As I said before 108 works without such a problem.

I don't think that this could be produced by a monitor fault.
As you could see in the video I earlier appended a tag field suddenly begins to flicker and there is no possibility to work anymore with MC.
After downgrading to 25.0.108 the problem vanished.
So anything that has been changed in the newer versions should be guilty for this phenomenon.
Yes, it is on Mojave, latest update.


I'd like to try to track this down but I can't reproduce it.
Is it only on Mojave that you all are seeing this??

Frank,

I think Bob is trying to track down the combination that causes the problem.  If he can reproduce it, he can probably fix it.  I do not think he is trying to blame your setup or say it's your fault.  Rather, he's trying to reproduce it, and help you.  :)

Yes!
These issues coming from compiling with Xcode 11 are generally pretty straightforward to fix if I can reproduce them.

The last version that worked for me was 25.0.108. I reinstalled it and am working with it again at the moment without any problem.
All newer builds (including .118) lead to a "flickering freeze" and make it impossible to continue using the program. Only a forced quit helps.

Great! With 25.0.119 the bug seems to be fixed. Up to now I am working with it without any problem.

Cheered too early. It lasted a bit - then the same fault - the opened tag field flickers and MC only can be finished with a forced quit. It lasts much longer in this version until that happens but unfortunately it happens.
One thing I had never before with a MC build: I can't play videos - a quick change to 108 and it works again.
Hope that you can find the cause.

The newest build is the fastest of all:
At the first start and the first time a tag field is called, it starts to flicker and nothing works anymore....
So glad that .108 is working!

Title: No Sound, TAG problems, Sound. FROZEN MC. Help !!!

I had the same problem with Tag flickering (v. .121).   I had some additional weirdness.  Yesterday, when I played an album, everything seemed OK.   Today, there was no sound.   I play through a USB DAC and I checked all the wires, etc and it was OK.   I also had the flickering of the TAG and no response to anything I clicked in MC except the pull down menus.   I checked the Audio Path and it was showing the DAC.   I quit MC and put my receiver on FM internet radio and restarted MC to edit the Tag and see if I could figure out the silence.   When I was editing the Tag I noticed a elapsed time ticking off.  I pressed the STOP button and my receiver stopped playing the FM station !!!!!   Then I started playing an album in MC and sure enough I got music with my receiver not set to the DAC input.   (DLNA???)  The audio path said DAC still.  I changed the receiver to the DAC and silence.

UPDATE:  I reverted to MC .118 and all is well again.   PS: I have the latest Catalina OS.    10.15.1

Update #2:  When I went to change albums with .118, everything in MC was frozen again.   Except the pull down menus on top.

I haven't been able to reproduce this yet either.

But it looks like updating to Xcode 11 has messed all kinds of things up, and even macOS Catalina itself has been pretty buggy too.

I know they've reverted to Xcode 10.1 to try to fix the crashing issues, but I wonder if Xcode 11.2.1 (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode_release_notes/xcode_11_2_1_release_notes) or Xcode 11.3 beta (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode_release_notes/xcode_11_3_beta_release_notes) has fixes for those issues?

As I already told before: I am still with Mojave and 25.0.108 works without such a problem. Logically it must have something to do with changes that have been made in all the later versions.

It affects MC for Windows (and Linux presumably) if it's the same issue I was able to reproduce earlier by using the Tab key (rapidly) to switch tag fields. It eventually starts to spaz out and blink weirdly.

I don't think it affects linux, the focus eventing is quite different from Windows and Mac. In fact the change that causes this was to fix a focus issue on linux.

I know what you mean.  I have a repeating error in Xcode 11 that I can't get rid of.  I just set it aside and am waiting for an Apple fix.

So far so good with .123

I have sound and stable tags.

But last time it worked the first time and I had trouble day 2......so I'll report back if troubles arise.
