Title: Manually associate video with sidecar file
Post by: sbdallas on November 16, 2019, 07:11:48 am
I had a computer crash.  Had to rebuild everything.  Luckily, I had a back up of my library file, but it was a bit out of date.  I re-imported the files that were not in the library, but they did not associate with the sidecars, so I'm missing a ton of data.

Can I tell Media Center to import the video data from a particular sidecar file?

No.

But when you import a video file which has a Sidecar file next to it, named appropriately, MC will read the Sidecar file.

If it didn't, then it is likely that the video file had been in the Library at some time in the past, and was deleted, so that a record was created in the Removed Database in the MC Library. In that case I believe that the original data in the Removed Database record takes precedence over the Sidecar file.

To fix, remove the video file from your Library, then create a View of the Removed Database and remove the record for the video file from there, then re-import the video file. For more information, search the forum for "Removed Database".
