Title: New Moderator -- Xen-Uno
Post by: JimH on April 29, 2003, 01:56:37 pm
I don't know why he did, but Xen-Uno has agreed to help moderate these boards.

This means that if you aren't happy with things now, you can send him e-mail.  I have his home phone if you need it.

Please welcome....... Steve (aka, Xen-Uno).

Thanks, Xen.

Thank you very much, Jim (and the JR crew) and the cool dudes/dudettes that hang out here.

Excuse me though, I've got to go do some spelling corrections on the King's posts ;)

..if si. ..Thanks!

You need to play with it for sure, just to get it right.

< which site are you using, King? I've been using this link...http://ets.freetranslation.com/...that is, if you are (you sound fluent enough not to need it)

King...just playin...I won't hack your posts anymore. Just taking it for a test drive :D

PS: I do owe the CEO one...remember Jim?...the scrolling "Are you?"'s (which I did get a big kick out of)

Careful what you say about the CEO....people say he's overly sensitive

then others say he's completely insensitive...

                                                      he has trouble sleeping

NOW I OWE YOU TWO!

I've got screen captures of all of this...so don't think for a moment I'll forget...I'll just bide my time for awhile, waiting for the perfect opportunity...and then I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my posts...and you will know my name is xen-uno when I lay my vengeance upon thee...

It's nice to know we now have several people who can change our posts. too bad the sofware doesn't recoginze the changes and post the Id's.   (First of all I think the software is great, most of the reply's are excellent, and yes I recognize the need for the ability for someone to change a message.) But I think it would be nice to say you did it.  Ok King (I still thank you for the great software, but changing my messages could (not did) get me in trouble)..

Well...I've been waiting for Jim to send me the code to MC so that I could moderate it...hasn't happened...yet. I can imagine with programmers being an independent and spirited breed, that some clashing could occur...leading to code wars (this can lead to innovation...or it can be detrimental). There needs to be someone in there that doesn't know what he's doing. Plus I thought I could add some Easter Eggs and maybe some bugs to keep MC from becoming TOO perfect.

C... > "Cependant, il te faudra trouver un meilleur traducteur automatique !!"

J'ai utilisé deux sites jusqu'ici..

from http://www.freetranslation.com/
"Nevertheless, it is necessary for you to find a better automatic translator!!"

from http://translation2.paralink.com/
"However, it will be necessary to you to find a better automatic translator!!"

Lequel celui est plus précis?

X,

They are both quite Ok. I think the first one is better although it did not catch the future in my french sentence, but I'm not a native english speaker so I can't really tell.
:)

Anyway, Xen,  may the moderation be with you !

Hmmm.... I wondered if that would work. :P

Frankly I'm getting tired of the bugs in MC. I'm thinking of switching to WMP9. Maybe file format too. Despite xen's love for ogg, and his constant cheerleading, I think I'm going to settle on the WMA file format. Anything from MS has got to be good.

So you changed my "I will be a moderately moderate moderator who will moderates in moderation" to "I will rule these peons with an iron fist"

Doof, I am forwarding all the hate mail I've received so far to you

Griff...
Thanks. Visited Pitt a couple times...neat town. Haven't seen a Steeler game live (would LOVE to, though)

Mach...
My brother...though you have been taken in by the placebo effect of mpc...there is still much hope for you. It is not too late for repentance. Perhaps my story will help give you the guidance you need....

At the time I was really into meditation while listening to music to relieve the pressures of life. I was trying to unload some stress caused by imperfect lossy encoders and the lack of disk space I had to put all my apes on. So I was in a deep meditative state listening to "Pie Jesu" and was thinking of the religious discussion I had earlier in the day. One of the things that were said during the discussion was "accept Jesus Christ as your lord and personal savior". With this thought endlessly looping in my head and the gorgeous tune as background, I had an "out of body" experience. I ended up in what looked to be a swanky 60's style apartment, but the place was fully furnished with the latest electronics. Standing there in front of me was a bearded and 'stached fellow wearing a tye-dyed shirt and funky kaki's. I stood there, looking quite bewildered and lost. I knew who he was (there was an aura of purity that surrounded him), and why I was there. "My son", He asked, "you seem burdened, can I help you find your way?" I said to Him "Jesus, I've had serious doubts on my choice of encoders lately. I chose mpc because of what the other children said were pre-echo problems in other encoders. They always play this song with castanets in it. I grow so weary of it. Jesus...how can I reach the same state of musical nirvana that you have?" Jesus chuckled, "My son, you are one of many that has come before me, all of them longing for a purer sound. I want you to listen to this". Jesus reached over and turned on his PC. He played the coolest song I had ever heard. I had noticed Jesus was pretty hip so I relaxed a bit and started talking to him in a more casual manner, "J, your PC and stereo are boss, you must have a huge hard drive to hold all your lossless files". Jesus replied, "My son, they are lossy files". Somewhat dazed and confused by this, I exclaimed, "No way dude, get out of town! The sound is so crisp and clean, no lossy can encode that well". He didn't answer. He stood there with his eyes closed gently swaying to the music, like he was really getting into it. The music became the focal point....the sound of vorbis was overtaking us. The song ended and we both broke out of our trances. I asked him what format they were in. Jesus replied, "They are in a format called ogg vorbis. I'll send you an E-mail with the link so you can download the encoder and a player my children call MJ". "I'm there, but what about all the others?", I asked, "They just won't listen to reason...I'll be called a heretic...I'm not going to be a martyr for some unknown ...". Jesus touched my forehead, and I became silent. All my anxieties and doubts were washed away. "You must be vigilant and forthright. I want you to join your brothers and sisters in the crusade for vorbis....to enlighten all of my children". I was now ready to join my new family of the vorbis faithful. We said our farewells. However, before returning to my body I asked Jesus about the song he played. Jesus replied "Oh that?...it is what you'd call an oldie from the 80's...Hell is for Children...downloaded it from a p2p network". I became very emotional at this point and blurted out, "I love you man".

Well, that's all well and good, but I happen to have it on pretty high authority that there's a new format in town. And it's being created by The Almighty Himself. Imagine a completely lossless compressor capable of reducing a 5 minute song down to a mere 16k. That's right, 16 kilobytes. He was shooting for 8, but apparently there are limitations in Windows that even He can't overcome.

I just happen to be lucky enough to be on the beta testing team for the MC plugin and so far, this is the best sounding encoder I've ever heard. Even the J-Man will be re-ripping his entire collection (and it's huge - 2000+ years of music!!) to the new .god format.
