Title: Progress in Inches is Still Progress
Post by: JimH on December 31, 2019, 08:47:26 am
I've been thinking about how far we've come this last year.  Here's what came to mind.

Web Apps and Remotes
Panel has matured.  JRemote for Apple got some love.  JRemote2 for Android.

Linux
We added Theater View and Cloudplay.

Android
I think Android will become a desktop OS, probably associated with Linux.  This year, Hendrik re-wrote JRemote for Android.  Brad and Matt ported JRiver MC to Android so we now have client/server capabilities on Android.  Brad wrote Bingo SSDP.

Cloudplay
This was a difficult project and still not finished, but it's largely fulfilled a dream I've had for a long time of combining uploaded high quality user content with streaming.

We went from 0 to 140 (thousand files) this year.  All lossless, some high res, a few multi-channel.

iTunes
When Apple announced they were splitting iTunes into smaller programs, we began to get some new users who weren't happy about it.  We added iTunes import capabilities to MC.

Plex
Plex abandoned the desktop, suffered a user revolt, and back-tracked (for now).

Radio JRiver
We have five streaming radio channels, about to be six (prog coming).  Few problems now.  In my experience, only bandwidth issues have caused any trouble.  It's 99% trouble free and high quality.

Theater View for Video
moe and lepa and others figured out some cool ways to add eye candy to Theater View.  Showtime added a pre-roll capability to show previews, trailers, etc.

JRiver Id
It's matured into a very stable end point / renderer.   We added support for the Raspberry Pi 4 and created a totally headless BlackBox version for StreamingUnlimited.

In spite of Microsoft and Apple
We saw a lot of OS related problems this year.  Both Apple and Microsoft seem to have given quality a back seat in OS releases.  Tightening the security screws also didn't help.  Users suffered.

Those were the highlights.  Help me out if I forgot anything significant.

And Happy New Year!

Jim

Thanks JRiver Team and forum members for a great 2019!

Support for Android TV like my Nvidia Shield is a great enhancement which will be even better when Network Libraries/Library Server is attached.

Happy New Year from New Brunswick, Canada!

Is there any way to find the Cloudplay multi-channel other than scanning through all music?

Not at this time.   Sorry.  Several people requested it here:

Maybe some use the same user name there.

Really?  How do I set my Shield to client mode?  I still haven't seen this capability.

You need the most recent version.  Then, when you do Load Library, you select the server you want.

Where do I get the latest?  I just uninstalled, then re-installed to make sure I had the latest the play store offered, and I still don't see a way to do this.

Yeah, I got it when it was no longer beta, but it won't play any videos.  Just errors out.
