Title: Any progress on Opus codec support?
Post by: jaxtherogue on January 17, 2020, 08:42:56 am
Is there any news on opus codec support? Can we expect this in 26?

Thanks!

Opus import and playback has been supported for various versions already. What else are you looking for?

It will import and play opus files, But it doesn't seem to read tags or cover art from the files.

Tag support would be nice. Doesn't opus also use vorbis tags so you would have at least something you could lend from already implemented ogg tagging.

Agreed - importing .opus files appears to be rather unstable at the moment. Although the import log appeared normal enough, MC clearly didn't succeed reading the Artist or Album tags.

If they were previously imported the tags might not be read.  Try the Library tool called Update Library from Tags.

Currently there is no support for opus tagging in MC. Hopefully some day there is :)

There is no support (yet at least) for opus tagging in MC

That's why it's being requested  ;)

File-embedded tags are supported in FLAC, mp3, AAC, etc. Why not in OPUS? Please, please, support embeddded OPUS tags. OPUS deserves the same support as other formats. Of all lossless formats, OPUS has probably the best audio quality for a given bitrate and it becomes more and more popular, also on YouTube. It also is an open, license free implementation. Please put it on your todo list for the next update!
