Hi, guys!
As we all know any message board always engages in p**ing contests for bragging rights at some time or another (usually when I start one...) wether it's the HP in your Chevy on Chevytalk.com, the boot time of your carputer in mp3car.com, how much you can overclock a pentium 4 with liquid nitrogen cooling in the hardware.com forums (don't laugh, they actually had a competition where they did something like that!) or even how much you can resize your DVD image without stutter with ffdshow in avsforum.com. So if this does not get slashed, here's my attempt to start one here, and it's even slightly scientific (OK, very slightly...) because I want to see how many files MC can manage without any problems! (Thin excuse? All right, it's mostly for the hell of it, but it's fun!) So here's a screen grab of the bottom of my MC9. And remember this is only music files (not movies), mine are all MP3 but any format counts. So I say what they in Georgia think is the last line of the nationa anthem: Gentlemen - start your engines! ;D

How many harddisk? How do you connect them? (Have only two x 80, wonder how to go on).
-
Apart from approx 150Meg of mp3, I have approx 6,000 music video clips as mpg's.
If only MC's video capabilities were as good as it's audio.
Maybe MC10??
-
fogot to mention, the mpg's use approx 380Gig.
I run 2 Lacie 400gig firewire drives on a Compaq Laptop.

Any problems playing trough Firewire? Don't know wether to buy an external drive with USB 2 or Firewire.
-
How do you that that 200gig drive connected? Do you have it as one partition?
I've read that if you have it as one partition, that scandisk and defrag may not work right.
-
In terms of value, nobody, really nobody can beat me! I store values worth billions and billions of US Dollars!
I store in my MC9 library, all neatly tagged:
1) 166 paintings from French Impressionist Painter Claude Monet
2) 51 paintings from French Impressionist Auguste Renoir
3) 71 paintings from French Impressionist Alfred Sisley
4) 58 paintings from French Impressionist Camille Pissarro
5) 85 paintings from Dutch Post-Impressionist Vincent Van Gogh
6) 33 paintings from French Post Impressionist Paul Cézanne
7) 75 paintings from French Pointilist Georges Seurat
not to count others like William Turner (English Romanticism), Manet, Degas, not yet tagged.
All these paintings are distributed world-wide in 128 galleries and 11 private collections in 24 countries.
It would take you years and thousands of Dollars to visit all those galleries. With a 12 second interval the complete MC9 slide show lasts about 5 1/2 hours!
And probably impossible to estimate the total value of all these masterworks of arts stored on my disk!
Of course I cannot tell you about the security measures implemented to secure this enormous values
I can ask queries such as: Show me all the paintings done during the French/German war of 1870/71. Or all the paintings done in the year Van Gogh died! Or all the paintings stored in any of those galleries mentioned above!
Who said that King Sparta would run the show?
And Bill Gates excels only because of the larger size of the wall screens of his bedroom!

> Don't know wether to buy an external drive with USB 2 or Firewire
Although USB2 specs out better, in real world use I've heard that Firewire is superior. Your results may vary.
10-27
edit: on my machine...2300 audios, 200 or so images, and a few videos. (~ 15 GB)

No, Everything Is Fine.

IDE, One Partition
I Use "Speed Disk" From Norton (I Will Need To Check It Out)

Since I only have 6000 + mp3's, and can not compete with most people here, I will chime in on the firewire discussions. I have a 60gb firewire drive, and that is where I store all my music. There are no speed issues that I have experienced.

I lost all my music at the begining of the year and started with empy drives in march.
I have 23717 songs today
A mix of mp3 ,OGG ,MPC and APE.
Only full albums with tags ,sleeves ,bois ,note and som lyrics.
C is a small drive -20 giga- because i use it only for progams.
G -60 giga - is the 'immigration drive' =all new stuff goes there
D=200 giga E=160 giga and F 120 giga get only songs 'finished'.
Like it ,i do not have to scan and defrag very often
All my drives are internal.
Part of them straight to the motherboard ,part of them throught ATA 133 [?].
I do not see any speed problem
-
I've only got ~10,000 files... 40GB. And I know a lot of that is stuff I don't even listen to.
I just can't think of any other songs I want. I can't imagine a library of 131,000 songs. I wouldn't know what to do with that many. :P
-
ok, so I can't brag anymore. But... I DID have the largest library before King discovered MJ. AND... each file was organized up the yahoo... subgenres in the comment field, Year, album name etc. LOTS of work looking stuff up on AMG.
I look desperate, don't I?
-
Well, 3573 files is pretty rubbish in this company. But I had to comment on the web page redesign - it is really looking good now. I remember commenting a while back that you needed pictures of beautiful people in glamorous urban-chic apartments: glad to see you took my comments on board :). Actually I think you should include in the flash 'spy on your friends with MC-connected webcams' to link with the picture.
Seriously - I like the look a lot, and especially the invitation to 'connect all your toys'. Hope you are going to skin Interact accordingly and use the icon for it.

The website looks REALLY good.
GREAT job on it.
One question and a couple of points.
Question:
What remote control is that? I need to get a good one for a system I'm building for someone and want to get a good remote. I've been looking at the ATI one but that one looks a lot better.
Points:
The page should also have little extracts from users about what they use MC for and what they love about it.
It should also have a tips and tricks section right there so potential users can see all kinds of things that can be done with MC.
The auto smartlists small picture is REALLY unclear and could be made to look a lot better (minor I know but potential buyers with no prior exposure can be picky).
-
Other small point.
Just looked at the new site a bit more. It looks great but all the links take you to parts of the old site which show no similarity in style to the main site. I definitely think the links should all display info inside of the new design style.
If the info is pulled from a db this shouldn't be too hard but will give a much better overall image. :)

Hey all,
Speaking to the speed of a USB2 or FireWire drive, it will all work, because I'm currently running my USB2 drive through a USB1.1 system and I can play files off of it.
Of course, it takes a bit of sitting there to write data to it, but playback still works.

It appears to be the Home Theatre Master MX-700. Not positive though. There seem to be some very minor differences in the images, but they are darn close.
There's a review of it (and just about every other universal remote out there) up at Remote Central.
