I installed MC26 with no problems. Previous to installing MC26, I backed up my MC25 library.
Now, when I try to restore that library in MC26, I get a permanent beachball. The only way I can get my computer back is to Force Quit MC26.
I tried to restore an earlier MC25 backup, in case that last backup somehow didn't save successfully.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should try next?
Thank you in advance...

How long did you wait? It could take some time.
-
I waited a minute or two...perhaps that isn't sufficient.
I'll try it again, and let it keep churning, and let everyone know.

After I tried to restore my MC25 library again, I went into Activity Monitor to see what's going on. There is a process called JRWorker, and it looks like it's pegged. Is that what you'd expect?
Ron

In the Activity Monitor, it also shows a process called Media Center 26 (not responding)

Are you using 26.0.18?

I downloaded this .dmg today: MediaCenter260018.dmg

My MediaCenter has been beachballed for nearly two hours: Activity Monitor still shows Media Center 26 as 'not responding'. I don't think it's going to come back.

Which macOS version are you running?
-
High Sierra 10.13.6
-
Is MC26 compatible with High Sierra, or do I have to upgrade to Catalina or Mojave to take advantage of it?

So here are a few more steps I took, and their results...
- I trashed the instance of MC26, re-downloaded from your url, reinstalled, and got the same results
- In Activity Monitor, Media Center 26 app runs for about 10 seconds after I request the 'restore library', then goes 'not responding'
- The JRiver Worker process never goes 'not responding'
- It does not matter which auto-saved library I try: they all beachball MediaCenter 26 permanently
Ron
PS - is there a way for me to email you one of the saved libraries, and you could try it out? At least that way we'd know that worked OK

Please send a library to bob at jriver and include a link to this thread.
Thanks.

There is no problem with 10.13. MC26 will run back to 10.9.
It sounds like JRWorker is hanging analyzing a video file.
Is your machine connected to the internet?
The first time MC does this kind of work it will need to download the libav component.
Otherwise, the file might be corrupted. If so, we will take a look at your library.

Now I really need your help, Bob...
I went back to MC25, which loaded my library like it always did. I clicked on 'Main Library' and performed a 'Backup Library'. When I did a 'Restore Library', I selected a MC Library Backup zip file, and after I hit OK, it beachballed forever. After ten seconds or so, the MC25 process went to 'not responding' in Activity Manager. The JRWorker process is constantly showing 99% CPU, and never goes away.
So now, after I did the 'force quit' on both processes and restarted MC25, my library was gone. It is as though the 'Restore Library' command replaced my existing library with an empty one. My Main Library (which took me months to create) is now empty, and of course, the "Restore Library' command does nothing.
Do you have any suggestions that I should try?
Thanks,
Ron

If all else fails, is there a way that I can unzip the backup, and manually restore the files in Library/Application Support/JRiver/Media Center 25? The part I'd want the most is the settings and configuration information.
Thank you in advance...

This might be a memory leak issue. I'll have a new build of MC26 up here shortly that you can test.
-
Thanks, Bob. I'll take it for a spin as soon as I see it.

After I installed MC26, as I said earlier, it came up with no music, no playlists, default settings. In order to help half-split the problem, I used the Library Manager 'Restore' command, only checking the 'settings' box, and it restored them successfully, so you don't have to worry about that.

Is there a way that I can restore my playlists from MC25? Are they stored in a file or a folder somewhere that I can copy into my new MC26 library?

You should be able to export them in MC25 then import them in MC26.

Bob,
If you go up this chain six messages from your last one, you'll see that my MC25 library (including the playlists) is gone. When I did a backup / restore on MC25 (to isolate whether the problem was in the backup file or MC26), my system acted the same on MC25 as it did on MC26: infinite beachball, now MC25 not responding in Activity Monitor. When I did a 'force quit' and restart on MC25, it came back re-initialized and empty.
So, my question was whether there is a way to only recover the playlists from that backup file, and update MC26 with them. I have already shown that if I only restore settings, that worked OK.

Ok, perhaps there is something in the hardened MC25 that's causing an issue for you.
I'd suggest re-installing the 25.0.113 build (last pre-hardened build). Read the messages in that release if you are running on Catalina or Mojave.
When you have 25.0.113 running, restore an older version of the backup to see if you can get your playlists back (library and settings).
