If I choose Internal Volume and listen to Bitstreamed DSD files the volume stays at 100%.
I'm using the ASIO output with an iFi nano dac and it has its own Zone.
-
This is a feature the DAC and its driver have to explicitly support.
Very few DACs do, and I believe most of ifi's DACs use analog volume control - which would be incompatible with such a feature.
-
I'm fairly sure it worked before with this same DAC... I have two other DACs supporting Native DSD bitstream I'll do some more tests and post back...
-
IFI would have to enable that feature in the driver. Chances are very high that they did not. I think only one manufacturer did that. I would have too look back to figure out who it was, but I do not think it was IFI. The volume control would actually happen in the DAC, after the DSD was converted. Nobody does volume control on the DSD signal itself.

After doing a few tests on my ADL Stratos and Exasound DAC that makes total sense..Should have thought of it, there's no way for MC to tamper with the volume on a DSD Bitsream...
My Exasound DAC does it as it changes the digital volume of the DAC itself with an Exasound plugin for JRiver. Which is why I assumed other native DSD capable DACs would do it as well...
Thx!

Yes, Exasound was the one who did the plugin. Nice feature, but nobody else did it as far as I know.

And they have a new version of the plugin which is necessary for v26. (I just found out the hard way.)
-
I'm usually the one letting them (George) know a new MC version is on the way :)...
He told me the new plugin should be good for all upcoming versions of MC!

Since this feature only works with Exabyte, the option should probably say that. New users sometimes think it is a general option and think it just does not work.
