I know this question sounds weird...BUT
Can a video card who has a problem or not working well or broke be the cause of the computer freezing when making left click?
I have this problem since months . But ,as you know :'it is because you run Windows ME ..."
Now i have new motherboard ,new Atlon 2000 and Windows 2000 and the problem is worst.
Cannot be the driver : on the cd for ME ,only one to download for 2000. No mistake possible.
Cannot be the install,i did SEVEN clean installs since 24 hours whith any kind of ways to install the video card driver.
If i stay without video card ,no problem ,as soon as i install BOUM! left click on the mouse frozes the computer.
Sometimes ,the first click when Windows restat
Before was a pentium 700 ,or 900 ,i do not remember ,intel motherboardand ME
Now Atlon 2000 ,Soltek motherboadr and Windows 2000
Mouses are many and any kind
keyboards the same
any mix mouse keyboard gives the same result
the video card is Inno3D Tornado - GetForce 2MX400.
To this day the only parts of the computeur being on both configurations are
Drives [ 3 Maxtor 1 IBM]
ATA 133 AD card
LG dvd room
Plextor cd-w
and ,of cause the video card.
I got it when i got the dvd room ,and after days thinking about it ,i'am allmost sure than from this day i have the problem
I do not mind to change video card - i would like the dual Maxtor to plug 2 monitors.
But if i can get some hints telling me that yes the video carfd is the cause ,it would be fine
Or that no ,it can be
Living for now without video card,Quitte funny to post

This sounds like an interrupt problem, but we know that couldn't be.
The mouse drive and the video drivers conflict?
Others are lots better on hardware than I am, but my approach would be this:
First, try the video board in a different slot (if it's a PCI board).
Then try a different video board and/or a different mouse.
It could also be a memory problem.
Nice post for not being able to see.

I think i would have just bought a new computer with all the problems your seeing (or in your case not seeing).

same problem with 6 mouses -got some from neighbours-
cheap regular ones ,wireless ,USB or not the same.
the mousse i use -and really like - is a Windows IntelliMouse

Hi Zevele
Soltek motherboadr
Which chipset? Nvidia or VIA.
If its VIA and you have not loaded the latest Service pack. You might need a new viaagp.sys driver. MS has it .
Hope this helps

Drive down to the sea and heave it in. Say a few words first
no need to drive ,it is a 10-15 minutes walk
i did it BUT the tide was very low and i did not feel like to walk on the wet sand under the rain
By the way ,the sea has not tide here......-
I did some more tests today ,and i can see the problem is the video card working worse and worse every day
King
OK ,if i say GeForce ,sounds better?
Griff
i saw a post about it on the video card site.
But my Windows disc is SPack 2 and i upgraded to Spack 3.
The driver is for SPack 1
Beside this i had the problem under ME and Pentium 3.
Look like the card has a problem.
Anyway ,i'am not good enought to troubleshoot all - far from it-
The video card must be still under garanty .
But i do not want to wait XXXX days to get a new one.
Tomorow i will put a Soltek one . It has to work.
Do not know if they are very good ,but i dont care ,i just want to run my computer trouble free.
Beside this i do not play games and play only musical DVd on my computer .To rip the music.
Ma collection of musical DVD his HUDGE===6 DVD....
So better to play safe with a card from the same brand
Dual Maxtor is too much $$$$$ here-$250
Thanks for the tips and the jokes
Still video card less at this time

Z,
Assuming you haven't solved the problem yet....
What happens when you start W2k in safe mode (F8 key on bootup)? By doing so it will force windows to use the base VGA drivers. Try switching out your vid card with a card you know works (if you have one, that is). Could be the vid card (I assume current is an AGP type), the drivers, or the motherboard.

Update
right now if i install my video card W2k does not start
not ever in safe mode
sometimes it starts in debug mode ,sometimes no
if i set to 'run the last good know configuration ' -or something like it ,Windows restart with the video card install removed.
If i cut power from the back of my computer, most of the times Windows will restart with the video card installed ... and crash after 1 or 2 or 5 left clicks.
The point is that 2 weeks ago i did install the video card on this few hours new configuration ,the computer was working ..less some crash on click.
But much less than before with ME and pentium 3.
the more i use it ,the more the problems. Really like something broke failling in pieces

Z > right now if i install my video card W2k does not start
You mean if you switch cards? The way to do it is to put in the card that has been sort of working, boot her up normally then change the driver for it to the generic VGA. Now you can shut down and swap the vid card and it shouldn't lock up. Point is to see if left clicking problem goes away. If it does, then it's gotta be your original vid card, or bad drivers....

I see you again!
Not sure to be good enought to tell you.
To make short ,the drivers from the card company -InnoVision- make the problems
The drivers from the InnoVision are VIA
I use now a NVIDIA from C:Windows instead of H:InnoVision. Or if downloading the driver from they sites from C:...program files/InnoVision......
Windows shut and restart fine ,and -for now - no click problem
Do not know if all of my prose makes sens
Anyway you see
what happens when someone just good enought to run a box ready to work from BestBuy try to have a self made machine..........
My luck is that i am REALLY stubborn.
Many thanks for the help.
I may change my user name from Zevele=trash to Ephes=zero....
I have another strange storie with W2K ,but latter
Again thank you
