Title: Audio Path
Post by: jason3 on January 25, 2020, 07:41:03 pm
My audio path says direct, the little gear icon is blue, but the input and output don't read the same.  For example: the input says it is a 16 bit file, and the output says it is playing 24 bits.  I have all DSP turned off.  What setting do I need to update to fix this?  Or is this standard behavior?

It's standard behaviour. In very simple terms, MC will output at the max bit-depth your sound card/DAC/etc. supports, but it's actually not doing any dithering. Basically it's just padding the bit-depth with 0s, so it's still bit-perfect output.

I sit here in awe.

I read the question.

And I read your answer.

Your answer is so succinct.  Yet it explains what "is happening" within MC so clearly.

Thank-you.

Try doing a search of the forums, it's been brought up multiple times and explained by the developers multiple times.
