Title: Ape files play a few seconds, then skip to end.
Post by: Brobdidnag on March 21, 2020, 01:26:05 pm
I have made many transcriptions of LPs from my vinyl collection, and I save them as two files, i.e. Side1.xxx and Side2.xxx
These files pay perfectly in MC25 and all previous versions. But in 26 they play for a few seconds, then the 'buffering' message appears and they skip silently to the end of the file.

Thanks.

Describe your setup.

My setup is a laptop with a Behringer UMC-1820 interface connected to it. MC25 is still installed and is playing the files (which are in APE format) fine. The audio files are stored on an external USB 3.0 1TB Toshiba drive. I use ASIO.
So, to reiterate, I can play the file with MC25, but when I try (without changing anything) using MC26 the problem occurs, and it happens each time I play the offending file. I can upload the file for you if you would like to test it.

I have tried the various options for playing from memory in different ways, but it makes no difference.
This only happens with these files. They are 24bit. Ordinary CD rips do not exhibit this problem.

In MC's Audio Settings, try Direct Sound or WASAPI.

You could mail me one of the files (matt at jriver) and I'll test here.  Thanks!

WASAPI does not work at all, with anything. Presents an error message about changing the output format to 48khz 32bit). Direct Sound works for CD files, but exactly the same thing happens with my APEs. Play for two or three seconds then skips slowly to the end.
I must say again...MC 25 is installed and working perfectly in all configurations.
I wish to use ASIO, because it has always worked since I first bought MC16 and is the best option.

Will do! It may take a little while to upload.

Uploading now....expect it will take about half an hour...

How did you rip the files?  With MC?

Got the file and found yet another gotcha from me adding support for 32-bit files.  I'm cutting an updated Monkey's Audio now, and Media Center will follow in the coming days.

Thanks so much for all your help.

I put out an updated Monkey's Audio.  You might run your files through a Verify with it and let me know how it's working.

You put me through my paces, but it was kind of fun!

BUMP!
Any chance of getting this fixed? It was confirmed as an error with APE 32bit implementation. MC25 works, MC26 does not.

This should all be good in the latest MC26.  If you're still having problems, I need another file.  Thanks.

I experienced the issue yesterday. I can't actually remember the album but I will search my play history for it.....

Also make sure you're using the latest build, 26.0.67 available here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,125021.0.html

You are right. It does seem to be okay now. Probably I accidentally skipped ahead. Sorry for the inaccurate report.

We haven't pushed a stable build for quite a while, so you would need to manually update.

Good thing the popular press does not follow this forum ;)

Well at least this thread has good news at the end!  I assumed I was going to be buried under legacy (before my addition of 32-bit) work again. But nope!

Cheers.
