Title: noise from Intel NUC NUC5i5RYH i5-5250U
Post by: Gio300ZX on March 23, 2020, 04:12:31 pm
I was lookng at a Intel NUC NUC5i5RYH i5-5250U to use for JRiver. I thought it was fanless but when I tested one, there was a definite noise when powered up. What would that be? The test unit had SSD. Suggestions for a truly noise-less Windows unit into whiich I could transfer my DDR3 and SSD from a nice-but-not-silent Asus Vivo PC would be welcome. Thanks.

NUC are not fanless... look at hdplex cases for fanless solution

https://hdplex.com/

There are others offering similar cases. It’s not cheap

Thanks. I must have mis-read something. I bought one on Ebay because JRiver use it as a base for the Id so thought I couldn't go far wrong. Anyhow, it is quieter than my old Asus VivoPC (now on Ebay) so I'll use it for now and re-visit fanless if the noise in the main listening room (when I get round to finishing the install) is too much. It's better in the office anyhow.
And just FWIW, I also went that route to re-use the DDR3 RAM and 2TB SSD which I took out of the Asus.
Nearly there...
