Have been experiencing increasing "lockups" for some time now during my import workflow and thought it was time to raise the issue.
I always right click import using explorer and then run through my import workflow. There is currently a lockup during the import process and a major lockup when pasting artwork from clipboards.
eg, logging below shows a 15.3s "lockup" here with MC entirely unresponsive after pasting some artwork.
0049937: 21792: Database: CTagSaveHelper::Thread: Done saving tag
0051937: 21792: Database: CTagSaveHelper::Thread: Finish (15375 ms)
0151421: 21944: Playback: CMJWaveFeeder::Thread: Finished feeder loop (bCancel: 0, bPlayed: 1)
I've seen lockups last twice as long in the logs.
Library has 100,000+ files, stored on NAS, which is accessed via mapped drive (Z:\)
I was also getting startup lockups until I moved my podcast directory from the NAS onto an internal hard drive, which resolved that issue entirely, suggesting it's perhaps related to NAS access, although no other software is locking up in this way.
Does the log snippet above mean anything useful in this regard???
Windows 10 Home. Windows Security is tamed with regards MC.
Open to suggestions...

NAS drives waking up.
Drive going bad.
Try a local test library.
-
Is your Database located on a local drive or on the NAS?

NAS drives waking up.
The drives don't sleep.
Drive going bad.
All drives enterprise level and regularly health tested.
Try a local test library.
I'm almost certain that would fix it, but this has to work with my NAS due to library size and the fact that the media is shared throughout the house to multiple clients. Not to mention data security/backups etc.

The library is on the system SSD - the files are on the NAS.

Try a local test library.
Imported an album from my desktop, so it's on local SSD. Pasted the cover art from clipboard - locked up...

Antivirus?
Type of audio file and image file?

Antivirus?
Only Windows Security and MC is whitelisted as far as possible.
Type of audio file and image file?
FLAC and image is jpg to Folder.jpg
I'm betting there's something in my ancient and hugely complex library that is "locking" MC up in some obscure way...

Try setting up a test library.
-
Created a new library - imports (which also takes many many seconds on my library) were instantaneous and the artwork copying also...
So it definitely seems related to my library.
Will zip it up and send to Matt for a look when he has time.

I sometimes suspect Registry crud when I read about such issues, and I know a Library has been around for a long time, through multiple MC upgrades. Perhaps try to test this with the following procedure in brief, because you know what you are doing. 8)
1. Backup your Library first of course.
2. Uninstall MC including Registry entries and Library files.
3. Reboot and reinstall MC, then Restore just the Library files from the backup. So no Registry settings.
Does the problem go away?
If so, it is some setting, and not the Library itself, including Custom Fields, Views, Expressions, etc. That might help focus the investigation...
But it could just be a bug just as easily. ;)

Good idea, but this is a fresh Win 10 install, so no registry crud is present...

Yes it is, if you Restored a Library with Settings. Have a look in the "User Settings.ini" file inside a backup ZIP file.

Will check, but how do I know what is crud and what is not...?

256Kb of registry info!! ;D

That is the question, isn't it? I had 344 KB. In my Workstation Library, where I do a lot of testing, I have about 76 Zones, about 6 of which are valid, for example. The rest are duplicates or deleted Zones I no longer have in the Libray.
Hence the suggestion to do a new installation without settings, just to narrow the possible causes of your current issue with lockups.

Will investigate today but am hoping Matt can find the lock because if it IS related to the registry, then it's would be a useful fix to stop it impacting others in the future...
