Title: Media Server Won't Connect
Post by: shoshaw on April 13, 2020, 02:38:34 pm
Hi Everyone,
I have Media Center running on a PC in my basement.  I also have Media Center running on a laptop in my family room.  The whole thing works great with MC version 23.  However, when I upgrade either of the computers to MC 24 or 25, I cannot get media server to connect.  I have tried running 23, 24, 25 on the host machine (basement) and also on the client (family room).  The ONLY combination that works is 23 as the client and 23 as the host server.  Can anyone help me figure this out?  I am not a network guru or a PC master.  Just a guy who wants to upgrade.
Thanks,
Steve

What happens when you try to connect.  Are you using the Access Key from the server?

Yes.  I am using an access key.

I enter the key and hit connect.

The "add library" window churns for a minute as it says it's retrying to connect.
Then, the "add library" window gets tagged by Windows and Not Responding.
Then, a popup window opens "error loading library" and asks if I want to retry...which I do...and it does not.

Thanks for the quick reply!  Great service!

If it's a really big library, it could take some time.  Windows can put that message up even if the program is working, so try waiting 10 minutes.

Otherwise, firewall ...

Firewall?  Why would 23 work but not 24 or 25?

A firewall might block one version, but not another.

I've looked at the list of programs allowed through the firewall.  All versions of Media Center are on the lists on both PCs.
