Title: Data CD Burning Questions
Post by: NoCodeUK on April 27, 2003, 05:36:14 am
I have just got a new car stereo that plays MP3 CDRWs so was wanting to create some using MC.  I have a few questions though.

* If I want to erase a CDRW from within MC how do I do this?  I could not find an option o do this from within MC.

* My stereo can only display the 1st 8 characters of a file name initially.  All of my files are stored in the format Artist - Track # - Name - Album.  Is there a quick and dirty way of changing the filenames in the burn to Track # - Name or do I have to change them all before the urn and then revert back to the old names after.  Its not a show stopper but it could make the process a lot easier if it could transpose names in the same way that it does during a CD Rip

1) Load cd-rw to be erased and click on options in the burn window. In there you will find 'Erase CD-RW', or something to that effect. Probably have to click on the device or drop target to get to window.

2) I don't think there is an easy way for this. I use Artist/Album - Track# - Name. But that's just an easy way to sort for an artist-centric scheme. However, my portable that I use in the car can read this set of tags, yours sounds like it will not.

If you start changing names from propeties use with care. It could zorch all your tags if you did it without thinking what the outcome may be.  :-/

Just a thought that I'm sure you knew about.

Cheers Machinehead.

It doesn't have any trouble reading the tags it is just the filenames.  It is limited to 32 characters per filename and when you consider that with my naming convention a large artist could take up most of that.  Ill end up with loads of files called Artist.mp3.  I don't mind renmaing and then back again it would just be quicker if we could transpose the tiles with a specific naming convention when Burning.  Something to suggest for 9.1 perhaps??

I found the Erase CDRW button but it appears to be greyed out.  2 things relating to this a) Why might it be greyed out and b) Could it be in the right click menu for the root of the CDRW in the tree (under CD/DVD/Handhelds)

a) Do you have a cd-rw loaded? The only time I get non-access is when no disc is in the tray.

b) Sounds like a feature to add...  ;D
