Title: MC26: Three miscellaneous questions
Post by: tjterp on April 28, 2020, 05:43:44 pm
I'm obviously not an expert here, so have a few questions that might be basic to most of you.  I just need some guidance and thank you for your assistance.  I'm on MacOS 10.15.4:

1. Why does the MC26 installer dmg dialog open and want to fully re-install every time I log in to my computer and/or open my printer/scanner dialog box?  How do I stop this?
2. In the application it says my version is "up to date" (26.0.56) but in the forum it's showing two additional updates already to 26.0.71. Why won't updates show up in the application?
3. Every time I do an update I lose my previously imported playlists. That is, I end up having to re-import them each time after an update. How do I resolve this?

Thanks again for any help.

I'll take #2.  This is controlled through the Help->Update Channels menu.  You get to select Stable or Latest.  Latest is updated more frequently.  However, sometimes they post releases on the forum for manual install, and don't make them available through the automatic app update for days or weeks.  For example on Windows .69 was just released though the app, and the previous version accessible through the app update was .56.   The versions in between were either manual install only or not available publicly at all (restricted to beta testers). It might be different for Mac

If you switch your channel to Latest, you will get 26.0.69 (at least for Windows).  Switch at your own risk and tolerance for bugs.  .71 is not publicly available for Windows yet.  I know you're interested in Mac but I don't have one to test; I'm just telling you the concept.

Mac/Windows/Linux versions may be released separately on different days.

I'll take question #1.

Make sure a) you've installed MC26 in the Applications folder and you're starting it from there and b) you're using the latest version available from here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,125078.0.html

Awesome Donkey -- Thank you. I followed this and installed 26.0.72 release.  Dragged it to my applications folder.  It didn't ask if I wanted to replace or keep other versions.  So, in my applications folder I have Media Center 26.app, Media Center 26.app alias, and Media Center 26.app alias 2 (which is the new .72 version).  I actually have old MC24 and 25 versions there too. Can I just put all these older versions in trash?

Also, new .72 version kept my playlists this time (!), so pleased about that.

Wer -- Thank you also. I will keep my preference selection on Stable and just either wait for the newest to come through in the application or check in more regularly to the forum and manually update if need be.

Alias? Uhhh, that doesn't sound right.

Do this... delete Media Center 26.app, Media Center 26.app alias and Media Center 26.app alias 2 from the Applications folder (e.g. drag them into the trash), then download the 26.0.72 .dmg file from the release topic, open it (and mount it), then when the little window pops up with Media Center 26 and the Applications icon, drag and drop Media Center 26 into the Applications icon. Then close that window (and you can unmount the .dmg file if you want) and go look in the Applications folder, there should be only one Media Center 26 in the Applications folder.

Finally start it from there and see what happens. :)

P.S. Don't worry, you won't lose your settings or anything deleting those from the Applications folder.
