Title: Media Center 26 suddenly crashes

Rebooted my machine, fixed temporarily and then same thing occurs.  MC-26 shuts itself down and I cannot restart, get generic "MC 26 is running but there may be a problem'' message.   I have made no changes recently.  No new software, hardware.

Configure your antivirus.  There is a Windows Defender thread here.

Windows is already configured to allow Media Center 26 through Firewall

That's the Windows Defender Firewall, Jim also means the antivirus portion of Windows Defender.

Media Center crashes are almost always caused by antivirus software and bad files attempting to be imported during auto-import.

You will need to be more specific on Windows Defender.  I see no place to add a 'site.'  Also why am I suddenly having this issue?  Have used MC for years.
