Title: Sidecars and tags for audio files
Post by: xexets on May 17, 2020, 09:27:28 am
Hi!
Can you please help me understand how tags and sidecar files work for audio?
I have checked Library-General-Update tages when file info changes +  sidecar tagging save in sidecar if internal tagging is not supported + create external sidecar files for media types Audio;video.

If I have single track flacs I can tag normally and it is saved in the file.
If I have cue+ape or cue+flac single files I can tag all right, but no sidecar file appears in the folder where these are stored. Is that expected behaviour? If I try to update tags from library in case of cue+single file it fails.

Am I missing something?
Thanks

I believe that since those formats can hold the tags in the files themselves then no sidecar file will be created.  Update some files and see if the file date and time is modified.

JRiver will only create sidecar audio files if the file format does not support internal tag updates (which almost all do)

Thanks. Do also cue+single file support tags?
I tried to update tags from library on cue+ape but it returns an error that the tag cannot be written, that’s why I thought it should have automatically created a sidecar
