Title: QuickTime video problems with 9.0.157
Post by: JimH on April 23, 2003, 09:53:43 am
Several people have reported Quicktime problems lately.  If you're one of them, please report the version of QT you are using here, and anything else you think might help.  OS, etc.

With 9.0.158, all of my quictime problems appear to be gone.

I also just had Quicktime check for updates and it downloaded some, so that may have helped.

I'll let you know if the problems return.

Your request prompted me to do some additional experimentation (with the latest build 158).

I am using Quicktime 6.1 on two computers:

WinXP Home- Athlon 2000+- on which most quicktime files play fine under Media Center as well as as the Quicktime standalone app.

Win 2000 P3-733- on which I experience jumpy, echo-y sound when playing quicktime files through Media Center but not when playing them using the Quicktime standalone app. Is Media Center demanding too much processor time for overhead?

Interestingly, the BMW film Ambush available from http://usa.bmwfilms.com/clap.asp?template=archive&country=usa&film=ambush will play on the Win 2000 machine under Media Center (albeit with sound problems), but not on the WinXP machine under Media Center. As I mentioned, the film plays fine on both machines using the Quicktime standalone app.

For problems experienced using Media Server see the thread "Build 157: Problems Playing Video Files". The Win 2000 machine is the server and the WinXP machine is the remote PC.

Hope this helps.

DWAnderson,

I could not duplicate the 2000 sound problems you reported when playing Quicktime files.

What was the processor speed of the system you were using?

That's obviously faster than the machine I was using, so I guess this doesn't rule out MC causing a performance hit. But even if that's true it wouldn't be a bug strictly speaking, so it's obviously not a priority for you at this point.

I'll take a look at my end and see if attempting to play these files pegs the CPU when running MC but not when running the Quicktime standalone app.

Thanks for the follow up.

DWAnderson,

Thanks for your patience. Any other patterns you see or information will help improve this sooner.

Thanks,

Steve
