Title: Question - Existing Artists in properties
Post by: nila on April 23, 2003, 02:58:59 am
Hiya,
I'm sure I've read this somewhere before but I cant find it or work it out myself.

How do I get the 'Artist' field in the properties pane to display a list of all the artists in my collection again rather than just the ones selected so that I can just type in the first few letters then select the artist from my already defined ones.

For artists like: Mary J Blidge I often forget if I put it as: Mary J Blidge or as Mary J. Blidge etc.
To keep the tree organised I like to have them the same so I need to be able to easily select whatever name I used the last time.

How do I do this?

I was doing this last night - I just selected all of the mp3s from a particular Artist, made the change - in my case making artists alpha so "last, first" then the change was applied to all selected mp3s.  it was pretty easy and slick.

The next time I restarted Media Server, the TiVo correctly alphabetized the artists.

It won't give you the full list if you have too many artists.

Sorry, but Windows combo controls can't handle too many strings on some versions of Windows.

For doing this, I love to use drag-n-drop.

Expand the Media Library->Artist/Album view, select the artist name that is wrong, click in the track listing and type CTRL-A to select everything, drag the tracks onto the correctly named artist under the Artist/Album view and it renames the Artist automatically.

It has made correcting these types of problems a breeze for me.
