Title: Routing Audio from TV into MC with e.g. RME HDSPe AIO
Post by: Manfred on June 01, 2020, 07:34:39 am
Is it possible with MC to route audio from TV into MC with e.g. RME HDSPe AIO through optical spdif (digital input to MC)?

ASIO line in should work

Thank's mattkhan - But just another question - want to be sure before I invest:

in the Open Live ASIO-Line-in Dialog MC say's: "You will likely need to use a different device for audio than you are using for input"

Does that mean I have to use different channels with different zones:

1st  Channel - Zone ASIO-Line In: I can use optical spdif as ASIO Line In from my TV
2nd Channel - Zone AES: Use as digital out to my D220 Pro

ASIO Line In is something you play so it outputs to a zone

If the ASIO driver is multiclient capable then it should be ok

I have an RME FF800 and it did not behave in this mode despite the driver reportedly being multiclient capable. My motu 1248 works fine albeit I have to configure it to use much larger buffers than required for normal playback.

Note that you can't store this as a library item so the UX of how to activate it is not v friendly.

Overall my experience of ASIO Line In is that it is quite brittle, working out a way to feed the input via the WDM driver may be a more reliable path if you can get the audio routed to it via some other app.

Could you not do this through Totalmix?

I don't know. That's why I am asking  :)

If you want jriver to process audio then you need to tell it which channels to listen to, totalmix is used to route to particular channels  if you want but otherwise isn't involved.

Yeah I wasn't sure if he just wanted audio rerouted or whether it had to go thru MC.

With the new driver version or rme HDSPe AIO Pro and the new version of Total Mix I got Sound out of MC!
But I had to use a different output driver: Devialet USB ASIO to get sound of MC.

But what does not work: The channels have total different output levels. Seems like mono only through the right channel. In total mix at the main output its stereo. Then the loopback to the playback channels takes place and then it seems to be mono. Any Idea.

Got it working: It seems channel offset in the configuration of Open Live ASIO must be 2.

Why?

Audio from Amazon prime now plays through MC and one can apply MC DSP to Taylor Swift's reputation tour running on Netflix. Absolutely Great!!!

Jonas Kaufmann playing on Amazon prime also sounds great through MC and better as through direct optical link from TV to Devialet D220 Pro.

Only open issue is the latency. Lipsync is not perfect.

I also get it working by only using the rme ASIO Hammerfall Driver for Open Live ASIO input and ASIO output to my DAC :):

 1. TV ->  optical->rme HDSPE AIO Pro->MC->rme HDSPE AIO Pro->AES->Devialet
 2. MS->ethernet->                            ->MC->rme HDSPE AIO Pro->AES->Devialet  (MS= Media Server)

I think that the new December releases of rme Hammerfall driver and TotalMix fixes the issues. :)

Sometimes one must be patient and never give up. As I started this thread the drivers and TotalMix were in their initial release.

CPU load on my i3 is ~50% when using MC Open Live.
