Hi everybody,
We are still trying to find a problem which leads to memory leak and system crashes during audio analysis.
Please try next build (9.0.150) and let us know if it solves the problem.
If it does not, can you please try switching HD access mode from DMA to PIO and see if that helps. Does anyone using SCSI drives have this problem?
If none of the things listed above help, please list here your motherboard name. I know, it's kind of personal, but it might help us.
Thank you,
Nikolay
-
Nikolay.
I will try the 150 built.
But the last times i was running Audio Analysis i had a look at the memory usage.
Unlike many builts before ,i did not see MC taking all the memory.
But after a while ,MC just close, even with a memory use that i would call 'normal'.
I will test when built 150 out and let you know
-
First problem:
a folder with around 80% of the songs having allready gone throught Analyse Audio is now see in Auto Smarlist as having no Aalyse Audio at all.
Anyway ,with 4614 songs to analyse in this folder ,i may be able to help........
-
same probleme ,at around 200 tacks ,all the memory gone
-
same here. MC.150 worked fine for about 900 files and then used up all memory it could get its hands on (around 2GB of ram+swap)
that's a lot better than with .149 which went berzerk after around 200-400 files

Anyone having this problem...
Please report your System Info by copying it from MC Help and pasting here.
We cannot reproduce this problem so we need more information about what you have in common.
Are you running anything tricky that handles memory or disk access?
Do you have any unusual plug-ins installed?
Which virus checker?
Which firewall?
Try simplifying your system as much as possible to see if it helps.
The problem shows up when analyzing audio, but it's possible the bug is not in MC.

Whiling analyzing, I'm also playing music. This error is still occuring with build 150. I watched it while analyzing today trying to see if there was any more information that I could give you on what events may be occuring at the time the leak starts.
I've had the error happen while analyzing overnight and it would error. This was with previous builds, so I don't know about 150 yet.
Here are screenshots from my latest leak situation. The first was during playback. At which time, the errors during analysis started.
screen shot 1 (http://www.webslinky.com/images/clip1.jpg)
screen shot 2 (http://www.webslinky.com/images/clip2.jpg)
Is it possible that at the end of playback and the end of analyze could both be competing for the database resource?
Also, I've never had this occur on my home system with analyze.

Are you playing or doing anything in MC at the same time?
-
nope. sitting minimized to the tray in its corner, doing nothing but analizing audio.
Skin is PixOS.
-
Other questions:
1) does doing only short or only long files matter (<20 seconds vs. > 3 minutes)
2) does the filetype matter (ogg vs. mp3 vs. ape)
2) does using a non-US locale matter
Thanks for any clues.
-
Other questions:
1) does doing only short or only long files matter (<20 seconds vs. > 3 minutes)
don't know. I'm currently analyzing alphabetically
2) does the filetype matter (ogg vs. mp3 vs. ape)
don't have ogg or ape. just mp3
2) does using a non-US locale matter
I'm using German WinXP-Pro, SP1

Before i answer your questions.
Anything to do with Fat 32 or NTSF ?
-
Some conditions:
- Playing mp3's
- Analyzing mp3's
- Using swedish locale (windows is US)

-I have the problem using MC for other tasks or not
-I have the problem with music on any of my five hard drives
-I run a Windows US english-hebrew enable , set to US english as default
-All Windows updates installed
- I have the same problem with MP3 , OGG ,MPC.
I cannot tell you about lenght of the songs.
-I have RealOne and MusicMatch installed but not WMP- i run the one on my Windows disc ,6 i think-
- I have Nero , EAC and DBpowerAmp installed as well.
Many time ,but not allways ,when MC has eat most of the memory ,Analyse Audio gives 'Error' to all the remaining tracks.
MORE OR LESS
the first 100 - + tracs : memory usage ok
From there memory usage up all the time at very fast speed and problem at 200 - + tracks
If i want memory to be back i need to reboot ,if not i stay at a hight level ,closing MC or not.
The memory usage do go smaller ,but not as before using Analyse Audio.

stripped down my system, installed .151 and tried to analyze a few hundred files tonight... and guess what. It worked. No memory leak showed up.
Doing more files right now. Then I'll reboot to get my full system back, update to .152 and go on analyzing ;-)
I'll let you know if it still works then...
Ingo
-
Bad news. Didn't change anything (no reboot, no programs started, didn't install .152 yet).
Analyzed 145 more files. And the memory leak showed up again. Not as bad as last time, but still eating up around 150MB of mem+swap.
Some files had an error status and those were analyzed after the start of memory usage increase. Restarting MC and trying to analyze these files didn't bring up any problems.
just finished reanalyzing all these 145 files.... again. no problem.
I'm now going to install .152 and just continue analyzing...
Ingo
-
Just analyzed 400+ files for 2 hours without any leak. Only difference from last time was .152 and no playback during analyze... Trying some more later on!

-
Sill no luck here
152 and not running any program, same memory problem.
Will try again after reboot
-
same here. updated to .154, analyzed a few hundred files and it came back. When closing MC (via 'X' on top right) I got an MS VC++ runtime error.
Next thing I'll do is completely remove MC and do a clean reinstall.
Ingo
edit: I get this runtime error on exit every time.....

Memory Leak still there in 155. Please don't release to the public until this is fixed.

Doing other things on the computer at the same time: Sometimes - doesn't make a difference.
I've re-installed the OS (including format), since the problem first started, and that hasn't helped either.
I've run it with library on FAT32 drives and on NTFS drives. Makes no difference.
-
yep, hit me again.
using .155, did a clean reinstall, even used a new library. this time it happened after only ~50 tracks. seems to be quite random as I could analyze a few hundered tracks in the next session....
Ingo
-
We've said many times that we would love to fix this, but can't reproduce it. Please provide any details you can. We just don't see the problem.
We believe it may be hardware related.
-
I've had this problem for quite some time now...and my system is VERY basic.
No firewall, no virus software, not playing in MC just analyzing, using only MP3's and nothing else even loaded in the system other than essentials for windows, no real, no winamp agent no mouse or keyb utils, no plug-ins. Only MC running.
Leak always happens, but it's random when it does happen, seemingly no rhyme or reason.

Free memory stayed in a range of 675-681 MB. For the first 100 files
CPU usage stayed in a range of 30-35 %
After 100 files memory range was 655-658 MB
CPU Usage was in a range 40-50 %
After 120 files memory range was back to 670-675
After 498 files the remaining files went all in error which was mentioned under Status.
And each error took away some memory which leaded to the underneath mentioned result!!

Note: I decided to restart my computer because it had become very slow in opening and processing other programs despite the fact that I had my memory back!
During the process I was not doing anything else
Virusscanner is Norton.
All files are mp3pro 64KB.
It does not matter if the files are located on my second disk or my third disk (I have no files on my first disk)
This is just an example, sometimes it does 1000 files before it errors and sometimes 10 or not even 1
As long as the proces is running there is no problem with memory
Of course the more files are in error the more memory is lost!
(SIGH) still 30,000 to go!!!!

Follow up:
I mentioned in my post yesterday that this happens on BOTH of my computers.
Hardware wise, one is an ASUS A7N266 motherboard with an AMD Athlon 1900, not overclocked, using on-board audio digital out. The other is a VIA C3M266 with a Via C3 800 Mhz processor, not overclocked, using on-board analog out. They've both exhibited the problem. The A7N266 continued to exhibit it after a total reformat and re-install of the O/S (Win 2K).
One guy mentioned earlier what he saw when the problem occurred. I'd like to enhance that, because I've watched it. I had task manager up, and was watching memory usage. Everything was going smoothly. Then MC started to work on a new file. Almost immediately, it indicated an error with that file and went to the next file. When it indicated the error, the memory jumped up several megabytes (probably the size of the file). The next file did the same, and the memory jumped again. This kept on happening. Some files actually did pass the analysis once in a while, but once the first one errored out, follow-on files errored quite often.
I sure hope you guys can reproduce this. You might have to go and build a new system, or get someone who has MC who lives near you to bring their system to you and demo it.
-
The same here.
At the start ,there is a jump in memory but after this jump it stays stable for anything from 20 up to 100 songs.
Computer is slower ,but you still can use it.
After that ,there is another jump in memory , there is no way you can use your computer ,it is slow slow.
And the 'error' error' happens ,at full speed , one song after one song ,very fast .
To close MC - if it is still open- return memory ,but not allways at the level from before using Audio Analyse.
This nigth i left MusicMatch analysing thousands songs.
It was fine.
I did it to see if working. But i do not know if the systems are the same. I do not think they are. With MM ,you cannot set to not apply the Gain.
Anyway , few thousands songs to" volume leveling ' in MM was working ok.
As i said many times before ,to me Audio Analyse ONLY was worth the price of MJ8.
So i do not mind to run any test you may ask me to run to ty to find out.
From this Thursday , for now i going to friends for the end of he jewish easter
