I have a bunch of DSF albums that I have converted to 24/88.2kHz PCM using Library Tools / Convert Format. So far so good. I have not applied the +6db option, as I do not want the conversion to clip on SACDs that do not adhere precisely to the SACD spec.
As a result, the converted files' peak level is around -6db, resulting in around 18bit useful bit depth instead of 24.
As DSD PCM conversion is lossy anyway, I would like to apply volume leveling during the conversion. The goal is to end up with a 24/88.2kHz PCM file that peaks at around -0.5db.
This is possible with DSD Master, but DSD Master has other disadvantages (i.e. no batch mode).
Is there any way I can do this with JRiver?
I guess what I would need is
- convert DSD to 32/88.2kHz PCM
- Volume shift in 1db steps to the desired peak level (should be lossless)
- truncate to 24bit

6dB is around 1-bit in PCM, so instead of 24 you would have maybe 23-bit of precision. So if all you want is precision, I don't think you can improve it much with such a process.
