Title: Giving up, went back to v8
Post by: gkerber on April 20, 2003, 05:30:25 pm
I tried writing this in the "Are We Ready to Ship" message, but it's locked, and I can't make a reply there.

I've give up on v9 and have gone back to v8.  The v8 install went pretty good, except that mjextman.exe was not reinstalled and I still had the v9 version on my machine (along with the new round icon for it).  I got an old version from a tape backup.  Music is playing again, in the right order.

Reasons for v9 uninstall are:

1.  CD Burning has a bad progress display and has locked up my computer.
2.  Sort order is not globally settable and sticky.

Things I will miss (even after one day) with v9.

1.  On the fly ape to wav conversion for burning.
2.  Auto renumbering of the tracks.
3.  Double click of an album in the tree no longer puts me in "Playing Now"

I will be watching this board to see if any of these problems have been addressed.

I very much want Media Center to succeed, and to do that, it must be working, usable and stable before release.  If it's released now, and someone really tries it and writes a national review with some of these problems (and others) listed, it could be ugly.  Remember dbase IV......

Thanks.

gkerber,
Please be patient.  We have had a lot of trouble with video lately due to WMP9 changes.  We should have it sorted out this week.

That has put us behind a little on other things.
